rear seatbelsts in an imported Oval

I have just imported my 56 oval from NZ and to meet laws here I have to either remove my rear seat totally or fit seatbelts, I'm choosing to fit belts! the dude that did the compliance/mod plate stamped it up as a 4 seater by my choice, so now I need to get a pair fitted to the rear so my wife and I can enjoy our little dub on the road again. Can anyone please tell me of a place in Brisbane area that can supply me with belts, or do the complete install? After waiting 10 weeks to get it I'm hanging out to be legal and drive it! Thanks, any help/points in the right direction will be super appreciated! cheers, Trev

Is the car standard?if if is it should not require any seatbelts as they did not exist in1956.I got my oval blue slipped after resto without them as a daily driver.

in NSW you dont require then fitted if the car came out that way but QLD may be different and besides there a safety option, if you can find someone who is licenced to fit

yeah, gotta be fitted, its to do with the compliance laws of bringing it in to the country, if its got seats its gotta have belts, no exceptions, not a worry though as i was going to put belts in sooner than later with family plans. got hold of a place today, will be fitting after market lap belts in the rear, a child restraint point in the firewall as such and will replace the front aftermarket belts with retractables for more comfort and safety. will post up the out come when they're installed, hopefully within the week! interesting how my adjustable beam and bigger engine weren't considered anything to be certed though, might have finally caught a break with QLD transport!!!

YAY, got belts all round, got a roadworthy and all registered! now aussie has an extra oval cruisen the streets! retractable belts are fantastic, so much comfier than the old, and got over shoulder fixed ones for the rear, and the child seat anchor points, the bolt plates for anchor points look a little average thru the vents from behind, will have to paint them or fab up a trick little cover, all good tho.

A Auto Accessories Vanquip, 22 Dividend st in Mansfield (3343 4566). I went with them because I called around most of the places that do belts and these guys had done an early beetle before and seemed to know what they were talking about, didn't even book, just rocked up in the bug and left it there and got it less than a week later, very very happy with the job they did, is nice to know we can take kids on little cruises safely!
A good investment I reckon.

Hi Splitbusboy,

Do you mind if I ask how much it cost to install the rear belts? I'm wanting to do the same with my Karmann as the kids need strapping in/down!

Cheers,
Kevin
