How fast am I going!

Ok, I'm up to my forth speedo, why do they keep breaking!
As soon as it started raining..... rattle rattle squeak then nothing.

Maybe there's a gremlin that come's to life when given a drink, because now my stereo has no sound, that is accept for the sub woofer, I've got a beat but no music.

And how was that wind today, I was blown halfway across the road twice.

Is there any truth to the rumor that VW can get spun around in high wind because thats all I could think about on my drive home doing what felt like 200mph driving in that wind. Crazy!

The Beetle's centre of aerodynamic pressure is forward of its centre of mass, so yes, it can feel 'odd' in cross-winds...

Haven't checked if its the cable or the speedo this time. The first time it was the cable, the next three times it was the speedo.

Owning and fixing/repairing/maintaining a Vee Dub is a bit "Zen and the Art Of ..."

My girl came back from picking up a new clutch cable last week (the old one broke) and the mechanic told her I would buy a new car soon as I would get tired of all the repairs I had to do. I wouldn't know what to do if I didn't have to fix something every other week. I think he under estimates the bond I have with my type 3, dare I say love for it!

I don`t kow about your speedo , but your stereo sounds like it got water in it and it blew the speaker output ic .But if your sub is still working the pre-amp circuit is all right.
so you will have to get a 4channel amp to run your speakers off because only your pre-outs will work or get anew cd player.

Yeh that sounds about right re: the stereo, I pulled it out and it was a bit damp. But know it wont power up, tomorrow I will hit it with the hair drier, it probably wont fix it, it was an ebay bargain.

So you think the not so old (12 months) cable caused the speedos to brake?

Before now they've all screeched before they stop working, this time it wouldn't show a speed more than 30mph, then it just went down to nothing, not really any noise. I wasn't sure about putting in the cable when the new one went in so I had the mechanic do it.

sounds like a kinked cable 4 speedos shouldnt die that easy

I dont think i have killed one in 38 years or so of playing with VWs
it has to be something else

did u try the dead sppedos out of the car with a reversable battery drill ??? into the drive end with a bit of squared metal that will tell if the speedos r buggered
