Insurance - Any recommended companies
About to insure a 63 bug and the company I have my inferior vehicle insured with will only do third party.
Can anyone recommend a company who can offer more?

Shannons can do your bug, and it may be worth getting a quote for your other vehicle too.
Even if Shannons is not the cheapest, you may be very sad if the unfortunate should happen and you cannot get what most car enthusiasts want.

I am fortunate enough to have known from the inside how insurance companies work. Simple maths is based on risk (like a casino). However enthusiasts
and rare cars are actually a good risk IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. Shannons at least take the time to understand this side of it, and are able to
'win at the races' so to speak.
I have insured with, quoted, repaired, claimed and liased with Shannons and their attitude is very good.

Yep...Shannons... we have the 83 Bus, the 85 Caravelle and the 72 Type 3 Fastback insured with them. They were too expensive for the 2003 T4.
As for greenslips..I found GIO to be the cheapest by far for older vehicles..and make sure you take along proof of comprehensive insurance (or just a
policy number) to get it even cheaper.

i had a bad time with Shannons even getting a quote from them... just felt they were being a bit stuffy and really couldn't be arsed with me [beacuase my car wasn't a 1930's mercedes or whatever ] ... maybe i was just having a bad day but i told him i just couldn't take his attitude
anymore and hung up on them.
then called GIO and they were brilliant.

As an industry employee-
Shannons- they will love your bug! and they will take on 'vanilla' cars too, if they are under the same policy as your loved one.
I have my 70 Beetle with them (daily drive) and hubbys falcon.
Also, they let you choose repairer and have automatic salvage rights for the 'older' vehicle!

yeah, i had soem trouble with them, just got quoted rediculous prices and had to get the car viewed for agreed value....
hadmy kombi with GIO as the were 1 of only 2 companies that would insure a modified kombi to an 18 year old, and did it at a great price, then had my
wagon with them as any vehicle over 30 goes on their classic insurance, which is comprehensive for about the same price as 3rd party, with salvage
rights, when i got my latest toy, the amazon i rang GIO and they gave me a price about 1/3rd of the initial shannons quote, and agreed on a value over
the phone without viewing the car. havent had to test them yet, but their phone customer service is about the best i have ever had to use and the
prices are great, the service staff seem to be car people.

I was going to change to Shannons a while ago but their quoted price was well above what I was already paying and as I have had my license suspended a
while back they wouldn't touch me with a barge pole without reaming me for more $$$.
I am currently with Vigil (part of QBE which specialise in classic cars with identical policy coverage to Shannons). I've never had problem with
them and will continue to use/reccomend them.
If Shannons are only interested in stuffy nosed twonks that drive Rolls Royces then screw em....... .

Both My Kombi and Beetle are work cars and therefore Shannons won't touch them
If I had chose not to disclose this however, It would be OK

Shannons wouldn't touch me as I was a young driver, but GIO had very reasonable prices for comprehensive at a good agreed value.

Just got the cheapest fully comp quote for a 64 beetle-- agreed value $8600 with specified mods including name own repairer etc etc $400 excess---that
I can remember --$194.60.
The cheapest 3rd party I can find so far for the same vehicle $276.00 NRMA.
Good for the NRMA but farkin robbery non the less from all of them.
I note that I have a tripple A rating --or whatever the fark max no claims dicount is.

As long as your older, and have no lisence suspension etc shannons are very good, but as soon as you start triggering their warning bells so to speak,
you will pay an arm and a leg. I have my beetle with them now, agreed value, and will be upgrading that soon as the new engine went in. But when i was
18.........
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

I have my 77 Bus insured with NRMA Classic Cover and it was cheaper than Shannons. Shannons wanted to inspect the vehicle to insure it for more than
2-3k which I thought was a bit rich.
Even if I got the same price for cover with Shannons they were more expensive.
With the greenslip just jump online and do the greenslip comparison and you'll see which company is the cheapest. It's saved me some time and money
many times.
P.S. I paid the $70 for my window cover with NRMA and it covers not only the front window but all windows. I get one free replacement per year without
spending any coin or hurting my no claim bonus. Good value I thought.

As others have done, I recommend the insurance company with the name of the airport in Ireland where Irish Coffee (stong coffee, a big slug of whiskey
and a huge dollop of whipped cream) was invented, to warm up passengers on flights from the USA. In the 1930s passenger planes were not heated.
Note the spelling of whiskey. Irish whiskey is spelled with an e and Scotch whisky is not. That's how you tell them apart, if the name on the label
means nothing to you.
