Fitting interior light ??
How do I get the wireing through from the light fitting inside the car too behind the dash ? I'm guessin a long piece of stiff wire and hook it thru
(and remove the PITA glove box first) .
There appears to never have been one fitted , I've had a poke around and I can't see or feel any dormant wireing in the light hole--is it sometimes
there and tucked behind or under something ? in any event there's no switches in the doors iether --or blanking plates--or other wireing that I can
find---- whatever.
Gratefull for any advise here,

Is there any wiring next to the glove box that goes up into the A pillar, if so it might have been pull back as to not see any wiring at the light
fitting. The door switches are located on the A pillar near the check rod. They might have been removed and you should have holes there to mount
replacements. Hope this helps.

Yeh thanks mate the holes are in the A pillars but there's no evidence of there ever being any wireing whatsoever regarding he interior light system.
the little lght hole inside the car has an OE plastic blanking plate which leads me to think that there may never have been one fitted from new
--though I find that a bit strange cause I've never come across that in any other beetle.

I only did this last week, mind you I had an empty shell. What I did was to use a piece of wire and go from the light aperture back to the dash just
to see where it came out. A lot simpler than I anticipated.

:thumb Ah ha--thanks mate--now where is that wire--I'm going to give it a go without taking out the glove box first as you found a fairly free run ,

Hi Al.
I also had the headlining out when i wired up My interior lights...
I put one in the other side too...
You should be able to put a stiff piece of wire down next to the windscreen and down into the boot...
that blanking plate may be Very rare...
I've never heard of them...
I just saw recently, a 1965 standard beetle that still had no door switches...
only one I can remember seeing...
All the other things had been added..
fuel gauge, chromed strips, glovebox lid... chromed blinkers , hubcaps etc...
what model car is yours Al,?
is it German or Aussie made?

If its got a blanking plate where the interior light should be then its a Standard model
the wire colours are red and brown that go from the light to the fuse box and door
usea wire coat hanger cut n straightened out should be able to feed and hook up the new wire through the cavity

Thanks for the advice guys I went for the thing this morning--and to my huge suprise it was straightforward, I didn't bother removing the glove box
and there proved to be no need.
The only hitch was the coat hanger--one was not enough by about 6" if the glove box had been out it may just have done so I just extended it with a
piece of another.
It may have been of course that it was a QLD coat hanger following the short of water principal.

Colours inside and out - Good contrast
Did Your car have the door switches installed??
I've never seen or heard of the blanking plate
maybe the only one left...??

Hi Lee,
thanks mate, no ,as far as I can tell there has never been an interior light, there is no evidence of any wiring for it anywhere , so i's not a case
of was there and fell out at some time in the past as far as I can tell , no blanks in the door holes suprises me a bit, but I spose they're the
type of bit that could have gone AWOL when it was re-sprayed.
I put a pic of the blanking plate up just as a point of possible interest---rare you reckon--might be worth bucks?---not---he he he .
