biggest wheels for my type3

hey Guys

just want to say congrats on this latest instalment of the worlds best Vee dub site.

any way just a quick question on wheels. I want to know what is the size, offset and all the other details of the largest wheels I can put on my 72 irs type3 fastie?

at the moment I have 15x 6 on the front and 15x 7" on the rear, I have fibreglass guards on the rear and I can go 8" wide on the rear but scared that anything wider on the front will rub. also I want to do a stud conversion any help on this would be great, IE what stud pattern should I change to?

Sorry I can help you with your question but love the rear guards, and rear section .Bloody awsome! Who made them?

Those front ones look like they came of an Torana slr5000. You gonna keep using them?

Nice ride mate

your spot on, those are rear torana flares on the front of mine, i took them off because it made my car look like a top door slammer there was the biggest gap in the world between the flares and wheels, the good news is if i cut my guards and put the flares back on i reckon i can fit 9" wide wheels on the front, with the right offset.

those rear guards were made from a custom mould by the owner who modded up the car, after he sold it the previous owner didnt pick up the mould so they went to the tip, i'm the third owner since the conversion and have since put a wrx motor in it. only praying i dont wreck those guards cause it will be a pain in the arse to replace them,

does any one know the offset that type 3 wheels are?

I found these on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&...

I know there illegal but what isnt these days, thinking of converting my studs to 4x100 any thoughts?

Quote from Square D at Shoptalk forums

""The stock offset is 46mm and the stock rim width is 4-1/2". Ideally, when going to a
5-1/2" rim, you would want an offset of about 34mm, which would keep the inside of the tire in its original position, and add the extra width toward the outside of the fender. Less offset, such as 25mm, would shift the tire even further toward the outside of the fender. Of course, the tire size will also have an effect, but it is relative to the wheel being used.

VW Trends did a wheel comparison about a year or so ago, listing the specs for the major wheels being used. You might want to check it out.""

search "offset" in the type 3 forum at shoptalkforums.com
plenty off stuff. THough you probably alredy have.

It would take some work but there is nothing like like trying before you buy.
So many mags around to day that people have paid top dollars for look crap because they're the wrong size or they just dont look right IMO

Stud pattern list
http://www.mitsubishi-forums.com/t1349-stud-pattern-for-my-car.htm

Jhon Sherman Qld will suplly disks front and rear for type 3's with any stud pattern you want. Price is very good too.
