L Bug head set install... what am I missing?
Hello hello,
When I got my L-Bug, there was no stereo. There is purely a hole there and nothing else.
Is it possible for someone with an L-Bug to take a photo of the area to show what parts I am missing, or describe the parts so I know what to look
for.
I do plan on buying a period radio, but it seems that I would be missing some mounting for it, including a plastic cover to shield up the massive hole
in the dash.
Thanks guys.
Tim

The holding frame for the head unit just clamps to the opening.
you shouldnt have a problem.
There is a plate you can see that goes around the radio that you could just make up out of a tin sheel of aluminium of gal. sheet and paint black.
the plate is held in place by the fromt cover of the CD
When i had a stock radio there were square plates that were locken in place under the dial pot threaded arms and another one on top. These then
sandwiched the sided of the hole.
I may have some left at home - i will have a look

If you have the original plates I would like to buy them off you, if the original radio, that too!
PS- Where did you get your wood trim from? I often see it advertised on the internet but only for LHD and I am worried that it may not fit when turned
upside down for a RHD.

Hi
I saw on Superbeetlesonly.com where soemone was selling factory radio plates for some sill sum. I just made mine from some 2mm aluminium plate. You
will need to be creative to get it to anchor securely to the dash.
I covered mine with contact.

i did the same thing as Steve when i wanted to install gauges, just made up an aluminium panel and painted it candy apple red to match my steering
wheel
my 73 convertable had the stereo installed under the dash so it still has an unmolesested radio plate so this is what they looked like LOL
