NOT COMMING UNHINGED AARRRGGH !!!

I've just bought a new upper hinge for the drivers door (64 Beetle) and had it powder coated prior to fitting---so far so good---come to take out the existing hinge , body side , 3 large phillips head screws---HA-- no problem , door side-- 4 wtf is it's --just 4 metal blanks which I thought were just sealing caps that had been sprayed over seem to be something else entirely , short of drilling one to see what I've got I'm entirely stumped  The 4 holes in the door side of the hinge are countersunk to take screws from the inside of the door jamb mirroring the body mounting side not from the door interior.
How do these hidden fasteners work ?
Can anybody help ---please??????

Pretty sure they are rivets & you will have to drill them out & then work out what to replace them with.

Or I could be totaly wrong, in which case someone will no doubt correct me.

Cheers
Brendan

Yup , rivets they are , fark it !! simple job now a PITA
Short term (and possibly for anyone else with a worn upper drivers side door hinge who don't know better and needs a simple fast cheap fix) I made up an E shaped shim out of some 2mm alloy plate I had laying around , slotted this behind the lower hinge (body side obviously) and re-aligned the lock striker plate .
I now have a door that opens- closes-and seals like a mere 10 year old.
Cheers ,
Al.
PS :The 2mm plate worked fine on this car--the hinge is not humongously worn--just --well ---worn.
I figure depending on how worn the hinge would depend on how thick the shim.
