Gear issues

i have a 61bug that has developed a rather annoying problem. when you change from 1st to 2nd it finds reverse every bloody time(unless u take ten minutes to slowly change) you can still push the gear stick down as you should to get reverse but u dont need to anymore, i had the stick off and it seems ok but i am not 100% sure, ideas? something simple at the gear stick end or maybe major at box end?? any help would be great...

Hey Steff

I am not going to of much help, however I have the same problem.......I have changed to an empi quickshift gearstick and about 4 weeks later it started with the same symptoms as yours. I still drive the car and the easiest way I find, to find 2nd, is pull the gearstick to the right about halfway through it's full motion then pull down. I generally do not miss......

Cheers

u just need to realign the shifter
sounds like the lock out plate is working fine but its just not over far enough
slightly loosen the 2 mounting bolts that hold the shifter down and give it a nudge to the side
i think it would need to go to the right but it may be a case of fiddling around till u gget it right
i had the same problem when i put my quick shift in

I also had this problem the other day so thought I have a go at fixing it.
Loosen the bolts.
Put the stick in reverse.
Tapped the plate as far right and up as it would go.
Tightened the bolts.
test drove round the block.
No problem any more.
5 minute job if that.

Look at the tech sites they help.
