Warwick updates - anyone & everyone??

I know we have another thread down below, but I thought I'd start a fresh one since we are now officially down to 4 weekends of work before the Warwick Weekender itself!

So where are you up to, how much work do you need to do etc etc?

Perhaps I am just looking for a few others who are as far behind as I am - it will be a stretch to get the oval ready however I tend to work best under time constraints (perhaps due to procrastination during uni days). I have my rebuilt box (thanks Dave) waiting patiently, my shortblock is now assembled after I got the new bearings (won't make that mistake again). My heads should be ready tomorrow (saw them today - seats have been recut, and guide bosses clearanced for dual springs etc (just need bead blasting pretty much). That will allow me to finish the long block. Then of course I need to pull the 20.1hp beast out and split case tranny, modify the front mount and get the new box in and the type IV....run new fuel line, elec pump, regulator, wiring etc.

IF I get time (unlikely), I will try and get the new front discs on and line lock, but I am guessing I'll have my hands full with the above. Is there anyone else out there with more to do than me to give me some hope??

Alan :P

I am hoping to build an 1/8 mile tranny before the event.

Still waiting to see what date the rescheduled Jamboree will be
and hope my new gears arrive in time....all before pulling the engine and tranny.

Motor and gearbox came out today. The gearbox needs to be solid mounted. The rear ride height also needs to come down, so the spring plates, torsion bars, etc, have all come out for a clean and paint and some new rubbers.

New adjustable and narrowed beam is in, wiring tidied and instruments installed.

I'm on track for once (touch wood), although I did some prep work months ago by rebuilding the 48 IDAs and cutting out all the rust and putting in new metal.

Sorry Pete, I just thought a fresh thread might get a bit more interaction and give everyone the chance for a new update rather than reading back through three pages.

Ha ha I'm ready but.....

The biggest part of my preparation should be remembering to bring a had and a chair. It was so much fun last year I'm looking forward to sitting back and soaking it all up. When I'm not racing that is.

So what prep am I doing? I'll try and make it sound interesting.

Last year I did a 9.7 which was lame considering I did a 9.21 in the Dutton rally after 2.5 days of hard yakka.

I've got some big tyres to keep the revs down on the trip up from Sydney. And some smaller sticky ones for the racing.

The hotel is booked (For about the price of buying a half decent tent).

My oval will be sporting some softer rear springs, different gear ratios (Thanks again Mr Butler for the advice) and 5 more ponies than last year (Depending on the Equine Flu).

Then, working on the same theory as red paint, there's the red upholstery which is guaranteed to give the car another 2mph over the 8th.

I've got nothing much to do except give the car a wash and make some spare manifold gaskets.

Except if it all goes pear-shaped this Friday in a private practice at Eastern Creek raceway. We don't normally do test days because we're not that serious.

Anyway, the plan is to head out to Eastern Creek raceway to confirm, once and for all, what tyre pressures should be used in circuit racing. If softer 23.5mm rear springs from a type 3 are a better match for the tyres in my car than the 27mm sway-aways. And finally, what difference do old konis make to new konis. I'm hearing that you should have your shock rebuild every 2 years. Ever felt how hot they get?

If something does go splat at Eastern Creek, hopefully it can be fixed by Warwick. Sorry to pollute the drag racing sectioin with roundy-roundy-racing.

Engine is in my brother's car!!! Step 1 completed LOL. Waiting on the fuel rails that should be finished this week then assemble all the intake manifolds and put finishing touches on fan housing etc to all be fitted up as well. Get O2 sensor fitted in tailpipe for tuning, buy a battery and a million and one incidental items. Car is off to the tuners to have Autronic and all sensors and ignition system fitted on the 17th. They are saying the better part of a week so then we have about a week or a few days to put some k's on it.

That's if it all goes to plan that is.....

In the middle of all this happening I am moving house and doing a bathroom renovation at the same time. Have to get that done first as having no hot water or somewhere to shower isn't fun and the wife isn't happy about it either...

Well the TAT turbo is ready to go...it's sitting under a cover in the shed just waiting.

Time is now being taken up putting clutch and timing belt in an Exa, sanding plaster and painting rooms ready for new carpet. All to go to Warwick on anniversary weekend.

But since this is at Morgan Park, and there are a bunch of horses currently quarentined at Morgan Park, will the Horse Flu have any impact on this event?!?! :duh

Funny you should mention that. I was listening to triple J y'day and they were interviewing people at the Morgan park horsey place who were supposed to be there for a two day event and are now quarintined there for 30 days.
It gets worse....the hospital is doing the catering while they're stuck there...:duh

Hey looking forward to the weekend even if I don't have a damn thing on the road to bring ;-(
What are the options for accomodation? JUst the local Van parks, motels etc?
May have at least finished my shed by then so I can park the beetle in it and get started on the project :borg:

Grudges

I'm looking forward to lining up against Brad's (Blup58) lovely, and strangely familiar, ghia on the start line again.

I'm also looking forward to lining up against Colins new black hillclimb beetle.

As for Fabian's Inch Pincher... bring it on! Give me enough head start and I'll take you on again!

We've postponed our planned test day tomorrow so there isn't much that can stop us getting to Warwick.

Good luck to all you guys burning the midnight oil putting gearboxes back in and engines back together.

Jak and I will cruise up to Tammworth on the Thursday. Then on Friday we'll drive the rest of the way and leave plenty of time for a few frosties at the track in the afternoon

good luck finding anything now as not only are the VW peeps up there for the weekend but the Formula Vee nationals are also on the same weekend so accomodation was actually scarce about 3 months ago...

Hey CT - mate I can't wait either, hopefully I can offer more of a challenge this year - my gearbox has been modified (taller 3rd and 4th) not sure how this may change the outcome - but is going to bloody fun testing in the lane next to you!!!!!!

Any of you interstaters or for that matter Qld'ers interested in hiring a marquee for your pit area???

Size wise it would be 3m wide x 6m deep. They would all under one roof in a big long marquee. they have lights(if we can access power) and have side walls as well.

If this interests you and would save you carting your own tent/marquee and save in set up time then U2U either myself or Dak A tak.

Unsure on exact costs as yet but obviously the more people who want this the more we can push for a cheaper price.
