Pistons.

After reading on the Cal look forum the problems with AA pistons in nitrous and turbo applications I sold the set that I had.

I have been offered some Venolia pistons and also some CP pistons ( apparently were owned by JE).

Just wondering if anyone has experience with either type ?

Application is nitrous (70 - 100 hp shot) 2386.

Marty stags uses Venola and CP. I've seen CP in rice burners put out over 100hp per cylinder. Im running custom CP's in my 2443 engine and fully intend to run stupid boost levels on them. They will handle it too.

What was said on the Cal look forum about AA pistons? I thought their true forged piston was basicly a copy of a wiseco?

I have used JE, Ross, Wiseco, TRW, Mahle and others
and would steer away from the AA's just based on their price.(too good to be true)
This may not sound very logical or a scientifically based argument,
but I can not afford to guess.
CP is excellent and was a company started by some former employees of JE.
JE would be my fav' followed by CP and Ross.
Venolia, Arias and other big name brands are all good quality.

As with any product if they are not used as intended, or badly tuned
even the best product will fail.

Make sure the piston you use is designed to handle those power levels.
Most of the ratings are based on 8 cylinder power, so factor that in.

eg if it says they are safe for a 100 shot, then only 50 in the Volksy.

Copy being the operative word ! It doesnt sound like there was any R and D behind the product. I am sure there were many installation errors in the failures, end of the day you get what you pay for !! Have a look at the drag racing forum, theres 4 pages of anecdotal evidence and some gnarly pics of failures. Sounds like a combo of piston and cylinder issues.

Thanks for the info Dave. Theres a 4 week wait on the CP, but Im in no hurry !
