a small update on my '55 oval rat - BRMs are on!
Well seeing as my last thread is too far gone I thought I'd start a new one for the slightly new look, here are some more recent pics of the oval rat
I have named Der Ratteschwein. Recently completed are a few new mods, and the additions of some new accessories. Sorry for the longish thread and too
many pics....but I thought I'd share them anyway!
Fitted the drop spindles, but wound the front adjusters up a little, want to go lower but will wait til the BRMs are on and see how I go, also fitted
some adjustable rear springplates and wound them down, but may come up a little to solve the tracking problem from the camber!
Also fitted the wheel trims that came on the KG, looks heaps better than the black smoothies. Also chucked a venetian in.
took the rack off the 59 as it looks way better without it, now on the rat
moved the plate down to make it look lower
mmmmm camber
got rid of that awful hella stop light, yuk, and found a vintage STOP light on ebay, soon to be mounted off the bumper bracket
got 2 Mexican blankets while on my travels to Tijuana late last month, and 1 now covers the back seat....looks awesome!
Bambus parcel shelf, Route 66 magnet from a cafe on Route 66 in Arizona and a few little dangly things I found in Japan from Moon like a mini oval
mobile phone charm thingo and a rat fink but you can't really see them
and another side shot because I love how low it looks now...and a few new stickers from Japland
thats it for now....will hopefully have the black BRMs on in the next month or so, just deciding on tyres....swingin towards 145/65 smart tyres to
bring the front down a little more with lower profiles, and 185/60 out back for a fat look. Keep you guys posted!

Lookin the goods! :thumb
Go the smart car tyres, i've got em on Gladys with her BRM's and they lower her so much more. They grip so much better than the Nankangs did, much
better tread pattern too.

no worries Brad, the paint I don't really think I need anymore, but I'd like the birth certificate for it, then I'll have one for each of the 3 VWs
which would be nice.

dubrat - actually I do have something new in the garage, so the VW's are living elsewhere until I sort it out, the oval has just been relocated to my
oldies with the new rims....not leaving it on the street with them on.
anyway, for those that wouldn't have seen it, I chucked some 135/165 tyres on the BRMs on Saturday and fitted them up. Going to have to run 145 smart
tyres on the front though as being as low as it is it scrubs with 135s.....either that or go narrower which I'd like to, but funds won't allow right
now, or wind it up....no on that idea either!

shhh secret admirer
der Nick, if I go narrower(maybe later) I wouldn't have to wind it up as I'd have clearance then....but winding it up isn't an option really, I
like it being low....if I go smarts I'd wind it down a little more to get the right look!
Wound the back up a tiny bit for less camber....but yeah the BRMs look good on it!

fronts don't fit so easy(even though I was told they would on pre-56 drums), they'll need some fiddling with, so I didn't put the rears on as it
would have looked a bit odd....I may leave them off as I don't mind how its looks, and the silver caps could be a bit over bearing, but all in good
time.

Really nice. Those rims just set it all off. So glad you didn't rub back and age the rims and try to pass them off as "vintage".

BRM's work Michael. Looks a treat. Wondering about those indicators though. Look better on a Morris or somewhere nowhere near your car.

Nick- its ok, it will happen eventually, one day...just gotta get the new toy running some numbers first!
Jon- another jap turbo toy, haven't had one for a few years, new semi-daily shared with the bugs depending on the weather, Midnight
purple 33 GTR on white TE37 Volks, chasing mid 11s!
Brad- the indicators seem to be a sore point to most people, I'm thinking of ways to rid the car of them, and it will be done soon,
but I don't totally hate them, they kinda work, and as someone else said, they are a uniquely aussie rat mod...but they'll be gone soon enough.
Thanks for all the kind words people, its alwaysnice to knwo you are on the right track.....tis almost it for the rat, just some liittle things left
to do, and mayeb a motor....just for Bond
