Wheel Offset on baja bugs

Hi All,

I'm just about to get some wider rims fitted to my 4 hole wheel centers for the yellow booger baja bug. The place that makes up the wheels said that he would preffer to see the car so that he can determine what sort of offset would be appropriate considering that i want to fit as big tyres as possible (diameter wise).

I'm looking at going with 6 x 15 wheels with 7.50x15 LT or 215 R 15 LT tyres.

I was wondering what experience others have had when fitting wider rims, do you just keep the standard offset or do you try to reduce it a bit so the tyres don't stick out so far.

Thanks

Stephen

You'll probably run into trouble with the rego dudes if you change the offset (the tyres may also hit the suspension.) Sounds like you've got a wise wheel guy - take it to him and see what he says; he can't make you buy on the spot.

Baja / Buggy Tyres

Here is what we are running up this sunny way,

Rears - most run a 31 x 10.5 x 15" or similiar on a 7 or 8" rim, these fit without much hassles at all. I have also run 32 x 11.5 x 15's and my Mega Manx is running 285 x 85 x 16 " on an 8" rim but this ain't for teh faint hearted or budget mided Buggy / Baja

Front I would go with a 15 x 6" rim and put 205 x 75 or 215 x 75 or 215 x 85 or 235 x 75 x 15" on it. Wes is running 235's and they cleare but he has a 2" lift kit. Dale is running 215 x 85 x 15 with no lift kit but lifted suspension no worries at all.

Baja tyres

I checked out the requirements with the engineer, he seemed a bit concerned about going too wide cos of an increased risk of aquaplaning.

I'll have to check out the front clearance when the suspension is fully compressed, but I think if I go for a 215R15 on the front and 235x75R15 on the back I should be able to fit tyres that are almost 30 inches diameter all around and have a narrower one as a spare.

hopefully.
