Defect door locks - VW Polo - help !!
G'day people,
a belated merry christmas to you all ! I am writing this thread today because I got locked out of my car ('98Polo) yesterday - for nearly two hours.
The lock on the drivers door was behaving funny and the car cannot be unlocked/ locked anymore at this stage. I have to come in through the boot every
time now. The lock on the passenger side got damaged a while ago when someone tried to break in there so that is no alternative. The key is basically
turning in the lock, however, none of the buttons open up. Any ideas ? I am afraid that this may cost me a bloody fortune to fix and I am a student
only with no income. What do you think needs to be done and how much would I have to expect that this is going to cost me? From the sound of it, it
may be related to the spiral spring in there somewhere ... if there is one, that is - really no idea. What are your thoughts ? That problem may
actually be related to all cars of that generation (Golf, Vento, Passat). Really, any ideas would be most welcome !!

cool, good one mate ! How do you recognise which fuse is responsible for the central door locking, though and do you just push it back in or something
?

P.S. if it is the fuse, what could have knocked it out ? A mobile phone maybe ? Everything works perfectly apart from that.

Its not the fuses. The components between the key and the internal lock have broken, its quite common, and there are about 5 pieces that need
replacing.

To give you an idea, it will be something like this....
1H0 837 061G Lock cylinder
6K4 837 223B Eccentric
6N0 837 229B Pressure Spring
6N0 837 238B Driver
1H0 837 245 Torsion Spring.
You would need to confirm these with a Chassis No. but that gives you an idea.

Cheers guys !! I checked the fuses yesterday, however, I realised that the fuse for the radio and the central door locking is the same so it couldn't
be it as the radio still works ... ;o)
That sounds about right, mate, as the doors can't be unlocked manually from the outside !! I just hope I can still get in through the tailgate !! I
am located in Sydney near the Macquarie Shopping Centre in Marsfield, North Ryde, probably not anywhere near any of you, I reckon. Where abouts are
you ? In Central Brisbane ? How much do you reckon this will cost and where is a good place to get it fixed ? I'll probably be hard to get the parts
and labour will be pricey down here, I suppose. I'd do it myself but am not too sure how.

P.S. I have for a long time planned to go up there and see the Glasshouse mountains + region again and such.

If you do it yourself, you wont need to have two seperate keys as noted in that link, just change over the pieces to the new barrel, so your old key
still works.
