I've finally got most things sorted after my move from Brisbane to Gladstone.

The Car is still as it was but now I have been told the laws for kitcars is changing again...

So...

I believe with very little money I could get this ready for Rego with all of the original parts it had when it was last rego'ed. Should I be thinking of doing this?

My plan was to finish the project before trying to get it through rego, but this is going to take lots & lots of dollars which I currently don't have. But if I was to get it to a state where it could be driven & after it's regoed start modifying it to the state I'm looking for.

So please help me out with the Pro's & Con's of getting it through rego or just modify it & get it past at the end...

My fears are I'm going to spend money on this project only to have it turn into a car that can never be driven on the road.

what issues can you see yourself having??

if it has been previously registered, and your rework isnt changing the chassis etc. then it should still be registerable AFAIK, you may just need to supply old rego papers to prove it was registered as a kit car before.

What lulu said is accurate ...as long as you DONT do that 2 seater rear window/firewall mod first LOL. Like Mick said, just rego it as is before it gets any harder, then as you mod it you can get each bit approved seperately.

How's Gladstone treating you?

sorry, that was me replying, still logged in as Danielle before.

but from a thread on a different forum, if the car has been registered as is, even if it doesnt comply to the new rules, they cant unengineer it.




Danielles beetle is back of the road for its makeover, and I got the job of project manager/head mechanic/artistic advisor/ideas man.
and somehow she got a type 3, which is all good, because I got 'Victa' the 'spare parts Type 3'

If it hasn't been registered for 7 years the DOT will not have proof of registration (they destroy all records after 7 years),and your old plates/sticker is not proof of registration.If you have the paperwork/approval from previous rego it will be easy to register unless they change the rules AGAIN....play it safe and get it regoed first and fix it as you go.At least then you get to drive it:cool: and it won't be a "project for another day"...

I can try to find a link, but the thread may have been deleted, someone got called up for an inspection on a 13B turbo RX-3, not allowed under the current power to weight rules, then the argument came up about whether it was engineered before the rules changed or it was just a dodgy engineer.

I didnt know about rego details being deleted after 7 years though? a few years ago I rego'd a car that had been out of rego for 8 years and all I had was the build date, rego number and chassis/engine numbers. they did mention how long it had been out of rego, the excuse that it had been stored in a shed for the last 8 years worked. this was in SA though.

I also just registered my 253 V8 hilux after 3 and a half years out of rego, all it took was the rego papers and the standard yearly inspection (probably the same as youir blue slip) and no problems with it.

Yeah the QLD rules are very different to the S.A ones. The sooner the states have the same rules the better! I have a friend up here who is having troubles getting a previously regoed buggy on the road as there is no supporting paperwork from when it was built,even though he still has the rego sticker and plates..they have no record and it requires re-engineering......:td:
