Indicators bust but not hazard lights

My indicators aren't responding in any way shape or form, it's frustrating (I have a 72 Square). I've traced the circuits to no avail and what puzzles me even more is that my hazard lights work perfectly fine. Replaced the blinker relay and it's not a fuse or anything simple like that, my only conclusion is that theres something borked in the actual switching mechanism in the steering colum. Is this a common problem with a simple answer?

Fingers crossed

Hi

Is the plug pushed in properly on the base of the steering column?

Steve
