Windscreen fitting problem

Hey All
I pulled my windscreen out of my bay bus to fix a wee rust problem - got a new rubber from Roy at the Bus Stop and can'y get the bloody thing back in - have done it a few times before over the years but htis is a bitch. So

Has anyone got any advice tricks ?
Can someone reccomend someone who fits them in Melbourne (RACV quoted me $110 - is that reasonable sounds exe to me ) or
Does anyone want to earn a slab and put the bloody thing back in for me ?

Cheers Paul

dont laugh but get a tube of Sex lubricant from the local chemist or 7 / 11 store
its slippery as a finger in a bum pardon the pun and wont hurt any of the paint or create rust

Yes,
You need someone with experience
that aren't scared to bash the windscreen

and know what they are doing....

I think all new rubbers are much harder then the originals back in the 60s and 70s...

as stones to to smash the toughened safety glass very easily on gravel roads....

Best of luck

Lee

Good question - I was wondering that last night. I reckon it only a safety glass screen - thus it would be in my interest to get a laminated one. Thus fitting would be free and I hate it when those things go.

Then again any excuse to use KY

Are you using a string to pull it in, I've never fited a screen to a bus but have put a few in old Morries and Peugeots and a string gets em in easy with the help of a second pushing on the outside.

Meant to add that the lube is a real good idea, theres one called silk, made outa alovera or sumpthn, works real good.

Hi Paul,

I just checked my records; "Elite Windscreens" (Melb) came to my place, removed (and disposed of) the cracked screen and fitted a new (laminated) one for $155 a few years ago. They re-used the rubber that was there. The windscreen dude knew all the tricks and was gone in 15 minutes. No problems since.

yeah i use electrical cable like out 2.5 twin and earth and rip the earth wire out and then spray washing liquid rond the rubber and get a bit of old hand bashing on it and it slips in..
seems to work for me when i do the bay screen..
hope you get it sorted yeah..

Thanks All
What a saga - the windscreen people could not get it in. The wide seal is causing mayhem i think - I'll try those elite guys Peter. Maybe I should by a new seal. Yet another weekend without the bus in the road
