Paul,
Did you hear that Ray Norris (the bloke you got your CB from in Emerald) recently passed away- he was on a camping trip near Tierri and had a fall.
Sad - he was a good bloke

Hi Peter,
Yes I did hear, and yes he was a very good bloke. I rang his garage a couple of weeks after xmas to ask him a question and his son told me what had
happened. I was quite shocked to hear it. He was looking forward to retirement in June this year.
He actually came over to see me (and the buggy) around a week before xmas, as he was passing through Rockhampton. He loved his country buggy and was
hesitant to let it go at first, but I'm glad to say he was quite pleased with the way I had cleaned and fixed it up.
A very nice man and very helpful. Did you know he used to have a Country Buggy dealership in the 60's and sold a few of them around Central
Queensland?

new KO: 496
Paul thanks for the link.
Oddly enough, I get several email notifications from eBay concerning several categories of items I like to know about daily.
The link you provided about this CB came to me about one minute before the eBay CB notification.
It's interesting to me sitting here in the US that two of these very rare VW's would be listed on eBay within a couple of months of one another.
The last one was offer by Ponybeetle but it was withdrawn before the end of that auction, presumably because is had been sold locally.
I believe it was listed at $3,500 AUD, but it was missing its seats and the original steering wheel.
The ad is still in the eBay system and can be seen here: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/VW-VOLKSWAGEN-AUSTRALIAN-COUNTRY-BUGGY_W0QQitemZ150172...
This new listing appears to be in good shape....perhaps has undergone at least a partial restoration. But it too is missing its original seats and
steering wheel.
For some reason these seem to be popular items to part off from CB's. I understand the steering wheel is the same as a split bus and thus in high
demand.
This CB appears to be in nicer shape than Ponybeetle's. It even has a nice non-original (my observation) top positioned by some sort of fabricated
faux roll bar.
While I like the original factory set up better, I must admit this one has utility and would keep that fearsome Aussie sun off one's head. ;-)
Also this one is missing its original "F" engine, but a 1600 DP would give it a bit more snap which isn't a bad thing.
Paint appears to be either a light yellow or perhaps the original Savannah Biege....its hard to tell from the ad pics but it looks nice.
The overall condition of this vehicle appears to be good, but of course there nothing quite like eyeballing a vehicle up close to tell the real
story.
From general appearances, and from my side of The Big Pond, I would say the $6,500 AUD is a fair asking price, certainly as compared with the CB from
the Tassie vineyard listed at $5,000 AUD.

While eBay is a great selling portal and conduit for listing and finding almost anything you desire, I can't help but feel the chances of sell
something like a CB such as this would be much greater with a listing here at AVD or The Samba, where there are many more people who truly appreciate
what this vehicle is. The KO is listed at 496 in the ad, and I just reviewed the Country Buggy Register and this number is not listed there. Bill, here's another CB for your list!!!
Regards,
Steve
