Dyno Time
Gday everyone, last Saturday I put the car on the dyno again. After installing a MSD ignition system. After Warwick we found my trusty Bosch rev limiter
had failed,I cant complain though it lasted over 10 years and many race meetings.I also noticed the car was looking for more fuelover the finish
line.
After talkiing to Larry we decided I should check my Bosch 009 dizzy and coil system to see if i was getting a good spark.Ifound the spark was pretty
poor and the dizzy was advancing up to 40 degrees total.Okay so the decision was made but what system togo for.I checked uot Procomp and MSD but
decided on MSD based on reputation and reliability.
So off I went on Saturday with hopes of finding a few extra ponies and a nice reliable set up. Trevor Osbourne owns Peel Mechanical in Tamworth and
has years of experince tuning VW,s on his dyno.he even has some old Weber tuning manuels which give recommendations on jet and emulsion tube sizes for
cars including VW.
I asked him to set up the ignition and webers for hillclimbs and lapdashs chasing a nice even hp and torque curve. I wanted to rev the little 1916 to
no more than 7000rpm max.So after 2 hours and many pulls the result 133.7rwhp.
This is with the car in full race trim,ie power pulley fanbelt and muffler on.Ilook forward to testing it out at the Bug in at easter. Next dyno
session i would like to find a good drag race set up ie more aggresive tune chasing more top end hp but thats for another day.
See you at the Bug in
Cheers Col

Col u know Larry is sometimes right
mind u not very often BUT all the time
good results hows the hill climb going or
have you decided to just do some straight racing and forget about the steering boxes for a while
much Safer than going off the edge of some hill

Dave,
I know for sure Colin ended up with 37mm vents in the IDA`s. I think he told me 200 air, F11, 145/150 main, 50 idle and not sure on the idle
jet holder.
Col will chime in if i`m wrong.
Regards, Keith.

Your spot on Larry,Trevor thinks f16 emulsion tubes may clean up a little rich spot at 2500-3000rpm but i am not to concerned because if the motor is
reving that low then i am either in the wrong gear or not having a go.
