ARE DROPPED SPINDLES LEGAL?
Are dropped spindles legal?
Also any advice on installation would be hopefull.

Depends............
Technically nothing is legal if you just bolt it on.
A Momo steering wheel is not legal if it has just been bolted on.
Unless it comes with ADR approval for that car then it isnt legal UNLESS it has been inspected by an approved engineer.
As for dropped spindles - i dont think a lot of them have been engineered - especially link pin type.
I know Golde60 went through pain (time and $$$) to get his engineered

Nothing is legal on a car if not std fitment, unless an engineer ok's it, and then issues a certificate.
I did the testing of the k&l spindles for golde60 (Kim) along with the engineer. It was an involved process, for which Kim had to buy a spindle
from CB to break for the test, and I made the jig in which we tested it...
Between calling CB, and the Australian CB suppliers, none of them had ANY info available on tests done on the spindles.
To be legal, you must prove they are as strong, or stronger than the VW part.

Talk to the team at Custom Vee Dub. They have fitted and had engineered a few drop spindle conversions in Brisbane.

The ball joint ones are easier, as the CB ones are TUV approved in Europe.
Therefore if you buy them through csp it is possible to get the TUV certificate with them, and I believe that is enough for an engineer to pass
them... once you pay them probably around $500 to write the certificate.
In Vic, you also need to upgrade some other things once the car is to be passed, like 2 speed wipers, twin circuit brakes, lap sash belts in all 4
corners etc etc.

went through some pain and $ YES
but it was worth it as I got pulled over by the fuzz twice inside the first 3 months it was on the road for a RWC check.
I knew more about the process than they did, after going through it properly.
when I got pulled over the second time I had a big smile on my face, and when the cop told me that the engineering certificate I showed him was only
valid for 30 days, and I gave him a 5 minute answer on why it wasnt - politley - I got told to "move right along thankyou sir"
Was worth every penny

Hi
I'm not sure about other states, but in NSW a cars rego modified status comes up on the police rego check system, I was followed many times in my old
yellow bug only to have the cops turn off, presumably after doing a rego check on my car.

Believe that you do, but I never bothered and was never asked, but I suppose if you hung areas where the fuzz are bound to pick on cars you might get
asked, somewhere like Brighton Beach on the weekend.

In QLD, even if there is no blue-plate, we are not required to carry the certs in the car, but must be able to provide them within 24 hours if
requested.
I've gone through a lot of hassle with my kitcar, as it is not blue-plated, but I was assured by QLD transport that the original Approval as a
Modified Production Vehicle papers are all that is required to be provided on request.
This has proven true, as I have been stopped by the Police 14 times in the last two years and had to provide this 'evidence' twice at the differing
stations of the officers issuing the request.
Always makes me smile when they read the rego sticker and say "This isn't a 1971 VW".
A work mate got pulled over in his Moke because the (very young) policeman thought he'd put number plates on a golf cart. Nearly stopped breathing I
was laughing so hard!
