Type 3 square distributors/hesitations
Hello all
I have a '72 square with an early single carb motor, vacuum advance dizzy. After replacing all leads/plugs/points/condenser/coil etc car is running
pretty good.
However I still get slight 'hesitations', particularly under load (accelerating) or even at a steady speed (but more likely on a climb and/or
highway speed). It's not pinging, although I typically just use standard unleaded. Still happens when I've put premium in.
Any ideas?
Related to this as it may solve it is using a 009 dizzy with one of the electronic modules, any experience with these on type 3s? I would like to get
rid of points just for convenience on a daily driver.

Do yourself a favour an put the twins on it for a start. Instant 10 pony power increase. Single port manifolds may be getting scarce but should be
around. May even have a couple of spares as well as the large balance pope. Will have a look if you like.

Sorry for late reply, have been caught up in a breakdown at work.
I'll probably look at twin carbs at some stage, although right now unless they cure the hesitations I probably wouldn't be doing it. I tend to
think it is more on the ignition side than problems with fuel/carby?

The single carbies on the early Type 3 vehicles were always a bit of a problem when new. There was some talk from the VW mechanics of the day that it
could have been caused by the offset of the carbie which seemed to give flat spots at some rpm ranges.
A good distributor is the one year only 1964 vacuum/mechanical from the high comp 1500S engines. A bit like looking for hen's teeth here in OZ!
