Engines


Well i am wondering if anyone can give any real info on SUBARU engines.
I ask because "just incase".. Lost a shit load of pressure on pot 1&3 alot more so on pot 3 about 30psi( bad lead, hopefully):grind:

Like ahh what is it the ej22 or others i mean what does this mean is it a 2.2ltr? ; also what will fit into a T3 what sort of mods are needed; how simple is it; what about options is it cheaper to buy a whole subi or just a front cut; how big can anyone go; are there any major problems with this refit?
Shit there are lots more.
But as said "just incase"..

I had a cursory look recently at the options available ....the states as you probably know has a handful of really good suppliers and producers for all the bolt ons such as reversed water manifolds and shortened oil pans etc etc
all at competetive prices and heaps of documentation for ease of ftting
a guyin the uk rj engineering solutions makes a purpose built bellhousing for the job , allows the subaru clutch to be used larger than vw
after talking to a few suby specialist rebuiders ..most suggested if you want to optimmize the potential of output in the 4cyl ,bang for your buck you may as well buy an sti short motor from the states for 3g and then get a autronic engine management setup
however on paper the cheapest way out appeared to be a svx front cut from rolins on the gold coast for around $2200
you get your management system and a motor to match the torque curve of the wbx , gotta do your brakes for compliance and stll get all your bolt ons and harness worked out .works out to be about $5- 6000 if you try and save from my calculations

As we are the only ones discussing this issue or only ones with an inout there must be a forum post of the same on site..

But yes i am curious as i am never stepping up to a front wheel drive Kombi..
I ask becaue i recently spotted a WRX engine pumping out a massive 428Hp whole front cut with under 120,000K's. for $2800..
I ask because there is a website selling the conversion kit for $6600 including an EJ22 engine.
Ohh SVX isn't that a VOrtex engine?
I have a mate who had to do the wait for a month just to get a pulley(main) for his from Jap Land as they are limited numbers here in Oz.
Mate with bang for your buck i am all for it..
I wonder if the Rex box is usable???
Cost of having a T3 box rebuilt is insane it's often cheaper to buy a whole T3 with average K's....

What about fitting a later golf engine like this guy in SA

My Syncro has the 1600TD and now i've got the turbo air leaks under control performance is quite good for what is a small diesel. The 2 litre petrol would be really good plus it's all vw so parts in one place which i see as the disadvantage of a suby conversion.

Hundreds of golf engines around if it does blow. There is lots of room around my engine to work on it which is handy. This is the same layout.

Sort of the same problem.
Still a VW motor same hassle sourcing and then paying throught the teeth for parts. Blasphimy I know but true.

The Subi option adds power fuel economy and easily sourced parts. Did i mention Power, i dont see how a small Golf motor is going to give better fuel economy.
But i had the same thought the other day only because i know for a fact that the Gen3 Golf motors in SEAT's have alot of punch.
A very quick motor car and it is onoly a 1.8ltr naturally aspirated engine.

Use the golf motor
or as VWRX on this forum used a 2001 vw v6 engine (best option)

Golf 3 parts would be cheaper than Subaru for sure,
the wrecker will nearly give away those Golf 2litre engines.
