All PayPal accounts initially have sending and receiving limits.
To remove these limits we need to know a bit more about you and ask you to get Verified.
To get Verified, we ask you to provide us with your bank account details. Once we receive this information, we will confirm your nominated bank with
two small deposits. You'll then confirm these amounts in your PayPal account overview. Once complete your send or receive amounts limits are
removed.
To verify your account and raise your Sending Limit you will need to take the following steps:
1. Go to http://www.paypal.com.au, and log in to your PayPal account
2. Click on the 'Get Verified' link under the title 'Activate Account' (see picture on right)
3. When prompted, enter your bank details and review our bank funding agreement.
4. We will then deposit two small amounts into your bank account within five working days. Please make a note of these amounts.
5. Log in to your PayPal account and tell us what these two amounts are, this confirms that you have control of the nominated account.

There was more to this (sent from paypal?) the x's are mine, looks like a scam to me otherwise why would they be asking for my bank details.

Hmmm... not sure. Paypal do use a mechanism like this for verifying bank accounts - I went through the process when I set mine up a couple of years
ago - but I don't think they send out this sort of e-mail unsolicitied. In the past the amounts are small - like 70 cents - and they had a
description on them that was a number I think, and the number was part of the verification check.
It could be legit I guess - ebay are in the process of making it so that you can only sell or buy using paypal, so presumably if you sell stuff
they'd need to have a bank account to put the money in.
Either way, paypal are owned by ebay and am pretty sure have the same scam checking e-mail system - try forwarding the whole e-mail to
spoof@paypal.com or spoof@ebay.com.au and they'll come back and tell you if it's legit or not.

Hey - how's this for coincidence - while I was typing the post above, I received pretty much the same message from paypal !!!
(cue theme to The Twilight Zone)
First part of mine is the same, has sections about Rebel Sport, QuickFlix, Harris Technologies, Webjet, RedBalloon Days, Youtube etc. but not the bit
about bank details.... presumably because they already know mine ???
The one I have the links in it all point back to paypal, the e-mail came from one of their servers and so-on, so although it looks legit I'd say
still go through the scam checking stuff.

It could be a phishing scam, whereby crooks use a webpage in an email for you to click on and enter User IDs, passwords, and bank account details.
Usually you can tell from the detail of the webpage that you are directed to, is similar in name to the actual company, but is not quite correct.
What is different in the case above, is that they ask you to go to an au based url first. This is the first sign that this is kosher.
The second sign is that the url they send you to is designed well, and then has further links to other pages.
Usually phishing pages are very simple things with "Enter User ID" and "Password" on them. Because it does not have this on the main page, I'd
say it is all above board.
If you are unsure though, as Pete has pointed out - send them an email or give them a call, and they will confirm whether they have done a bulk mail
out or not.

Pay Pal do need Your banking details if you use them...
I've been a member for years..
I think that one is a scam..
I get ebay emails every month that i send to ebay and they say its NOT from them...
and PayPal don't send out emails asking for your details
they always say that you have to go to their site
and log in etc....
so don't answer it..

Hi
Never click on link to Paypal in an email, go straight to Paypal site and do what you need to do there, also report scams on the Paypal sight.
If you look at the highlighted link in the email you will find that it has about 100+ charters in it, a sure sign of a scam.

As I stated above, and the facts that I have pointed out, I do not believe this is a scam.
Also note in point #1 of the original email, that they ask you to log into the Account via the Paypal URL and signin page. All phishers usually ask
you to click on a link from within the email - the link takes you to a foreign hosted webpage. In this instance, the url's are legit.
I was all over these phishing scams a few years ago for work. Most have links back to the Russian Mafia and are hard to trace.
If it is a scam, then it is very very good. Given that they have secured Paypals Australian URL, designed a full website (not just a fraudulent,
offshored page), and have multiple links within the website that are all also hosted locally, they've gone alot of trouble.
Also note that http://www.paypal.com.au has not yet been shutdown nor had a denial of
service put in place. Usually the AFP get over these things very quickly and pull the URL from use.
Make your own mind up from these facts.

NOT A SCAM. Twsmall deposits were seen in my account and is how my account was verified, but that was years ago so if in any doubt, call them direct
and they will confirm what amounts they sent you.

all PayPal ebay etc emails
don't ask for your details
as they already know them
and if you aren't already a member
they don't just send out emails
