Gearbox/Starter options?
I have a 1500 box to go in front of a 1600 twinport that has a 6v flywheel on it. Therefore i must use a 6v starter.
Box has 12v starter bush, If I remove bush & drill hole to match 6v bush (Backyard job) I'm worried about the chances of the drill going through
true.
My other thought is to get the starter armature machined on the end to match 12v bush. I assume it would then need some surface treatment (hardening)
Would this be possible just on the bit that has been machined or would I risk the heat destroying the armature windings?

The end of the starter can be machined no worries and the hardness remains the same.
I believe there is a conversion bush available, but being so thin, the machining of the starter is best.

Will get starter shaft machined.
re: conversion bush, with 12v bush removed, 6v shaft is almost a neat fit in hole, so conversion bush would have to be very, very thin. I bet they
would be a bugger to get in undamaged, with so little meat on them, as well as not lasting very long.
