VW's going OS!
Why the F@*% are people sending VW's overseas. I don't usually concern myself with other peoples business, but today I just found out a shop I
(used) to deal with in Melb has been buying VW's and sending them overseas just to make a buck.
Personally, I think this is morally wrong, as the more that go OS the less chance my kids or grandkids will see a VW driving on the road.
I run a VW/Porsche resto business and,yes, I have bought and sold a few VW's.
Every one of them I have done substantial repairs to, to ensure they will never see the graveyard, turned down offers from overseas buyers and created
cars that have drawn people into the scene.
I am sick of workshops and people buying cars, doing nothing to them and either selling them overseas or for ridiculously escalated prices. This
just makes it unaffordable for every day people to get into the scene.
I personally will not support these money hungry people/shops and hope others will follow.
Make your money on the share market, and leave our cars alone!

Big Deal If I had the contacts i'd sell them, after all money can buy happiness
I think you are jealous and maybe if you work hard you can bring one back if you ever travel over the Yarra pull your head out of your bum and realize
that there is more to life than aussie volkswagens if your kids need to see one go to any university there are about 15 in the carpark

I am in agreeance with Fuch. I've been hoarding parts for my type 3 for the better part of 15 years now. I am not interested in paying over the top
prices just cos some dipwit wants to make a quick easy buck to some poms out of my hobby and passion.
There may be more to life than aussie volkswagens....maybe so...... Just don't rip me off when it comes to buying parts etc cos I don't have UK
pounds when I buy in Australia!!
If you can't fix it with a hammer,

At least when they go O/S it's to people who keep them on the road! How many do you see or know of here that people just aren't interested in and
they lay rusting away???? You have the choice of selling them to people or sending them to Sims metal. Once they are crushed they are gone for
good....if they go overseas, then good luck to them..

So because they're trying to make a buck you have an issue? Sure it's annoying, however how many times have things been offered in Aus and no one
has bought it? Plenty.
Hands up all of those who HAVEN'T looked on The Samba, US Ebay, or any other US website and thought "hmmm, the Aussie dollar is looking good at the
moment....wouldn't it be great to bring that car in from the US...."
I think the answers to that may bring a bit more perspective to this.

Agree, comments a bit on the harsh side. Forum not Fight Club. Everyone has point of view on this. Im not interested in selling OS, but quite happy to
buy one and bring it in as I know it will be restored and looked after by me until the day I decide to sell it. And then when I do make profit, thats
my good fortune.

i guess it's just a personal opinion.
me, i don't mind sending cars overseas. there's good money to be made and it means that it's one less rusting away.

Gee that was polite for me !
I have an intolerance for small minded comments
Like some people who are upset that they have to pay high rents (I think they should be higher)
if they don't like it buy there own house
If I was selling petrol bike sales would go through the roof
same goes with VW's you want to keep them here stand at the docks with handfuls of money

send em off I say. for every one sent someone digs up another 4 a week later. And I agree with Mick. There have been literally hundreds of VWs listed
on this site that never sold and probably ended up at the tip. anything sent overseas is treated like it came from king tut's tomb. Imagine bringing
in an old corvette or porsche from OS and the lengths you'd go to in order to keep it on the road. Vw fanatics in the UK will do the same to a BAY
WINDOW kombi. Over here, people are mostly only interested in them for their engines (type4s for the german look crowd) and gearboxes (for the offroad
crowd). if you don't want them to go OS them buy them.

Speaking of good aussie stuff going OS. Dont think anyone would pay this price for it here and interesting to know what it cost him total to get it to
the US.

i can see both sides of the story to
its just the way some ppl go about it that piss me off
heres the biggest f**kwit responsible for it
http://www.outback-kombis.co.uk/home.html
he is ripping off ppl blind
he was in town here a few weeks ago
and approached one of my mates who has a few VWs well lets just say he left empty handed with an enhanced aussie vocabulary
just lucky i wasnt there cos i really woulda said my piece as well
ppl doing what glider69 is piss me off abit
not u in particular glider but for eg. theres an old coot in town here with 6 bugs under his house, most of them are ovals
there all done up for his grandkids
cept his grandkids have their licsenses now and just arent interested in the cars and want newer cars with creature comforts
so all the bugs are going to waste sitting under his shitty old house which is likely to collapse on them cos hes to stingy to sell them
alot of vultures circling waiting for him to cark it then the grandkids can pass them on
i know i cant really talk given the collection i had but ive since worked out that im not gonna get to them all and they have been going to
enthuisists who are gonna finish them off

Just saw this one on Thesamba. Good sale prices if they can get it when they are then sold on by the Septic Tanks when they get them!! And that's
for the old standard trim OZ built "S"! But then again, is it an S as all the trim is from the 1964 N excluding the bumper overriders which didn't
belong to that model.

Do I remember this car somewhere around Westmead some 12 years back as well as seeing it for sale at one of the shows way back at Yennora similar
years.

Cannot see the problem. The market will decide. You ain't payin' you ain't playing! simple really. You want something, pay the price and off you
go. Whinging and cursing will not get you behind the wheel. The aussie dollar going up will make our VW's less attractive to o/s buyers now
anyway.(they will keep cleaning out South Africa - you should hear them bitch! )

It is the law of supply and demand. It is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it at the time. If that person happens to be from overseas,
then it goes overseas. I myself have bought a car that came in from the states. I converted it to right hand drive and restored it because that is
what I wanted but couldn't get here. Why should I then deny others overseas from having the same opportunity. Even with the price the poms would
pay for it, I would still not get back what I spent restoring it but it would at least be closer than anyone would pay here.
Many times I have seen cars just sit on here that should be snapped up but people just do not want to pay the money for them. What is the owner then
supposed to do? If I had to sell any of my cars, my biggest concern is that it goes to someone that will use it with respect. The more it sells for,
I believe, the more likely it is to be looked after.
My 2c worth.

how it is.
None on my local yards get any vw anymore, I asked them why and they said that they are all brought but the same person every time at the auctions.
This person was sending out 30 to 40 cars a month.
They stopped for about 6-8 months as their customers didn't want anymore.
I managed to grab some parts from them at this point.
They are now buying and shipping again and also selling kombis to another business here in Melbourne.
This other factory are shipping out a large number of cars per month as well.
The problem I see is with high prices for scrap metal and cars being shipped out the parts are going to run out really quick.

I could not sell my Notch locally. The only interest came from 2 OS buyers. Reluctant as I was, it went abroad as that is where the buyer was.
What I think is far worse, is the local hoarders, who hold out for big money, and ultimately the cars and parts simply rot away beyond resurrection.
Far better to see the cars on the road in my opinion.
