Picked this up from Sydney on the weekend.

I have been looking for a 4speed box to test the theory that the extra cog 5th gear weakens the box somehow. When running at 110Kmh i was sitting at
3000rpm. The whole trip from Sydney to Maclean cost 121 in fuel of which i still had half a tank of juice when i got home. I was never taking it easy.
I mean i knew i had the power to overtake, so when needed i did.
OK u 2 doubters, i guess the only way one can convince anyone is basic maths.
Stock 2.1ltr MV rebuild = 6-8g Yeh?
Stock low K 2.5 ltr subi forester implant = 6-7G?
Parts much the same, except the subi is available in plentiful in Australia unlike the VW Plant. I was once like you disgusted in the thought. But
after driving this baby home i am not a fence sitter anymore.
tell me u can knock it back to third at 100K's and overtake anything uphill.

6-8k!!! not if you do it yourself more like 2-3k, and T3 parts are easy to get if you know where to look.
I'll stick to my 2.1's they do a great job.

Basically for me it was a matter of time and money.
Yes they, all motors have their problems. And i am sure i will find some with the subi donk.
Yes i know u have plenty of these things laying around. Probably got all the tools as well.
Basically I have 4 young kids 2-10 and a 17yr old; it seemed to be every weekend i was telling them i cant this weekend mate i gotta fix this.
If u know what i mean, you will understand my decision.

At present 3
1 is a fixer and sold model.
Still got the Syncro but havent been able to drive it no time. I am almost thinking of selling
Yeh i thought about cam belts harmonic balancers etc. but not until after i bought it drove it home and went hmmm nice power and fuel economy.
New model is great slim line AC duct through center.
Just sussing shorthened sumps. Seems to be alot of if and buts with this.
Anyone got links?

I have a Custom Vee Dub Shortened sump kit on my EJ 22 - http://www.customveedub.com.au/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=1 and it is awesome. It gets all the ground
clearance back and gets rid of the factory sump surge issues.
The new generation of sumps are even better quality with easy access holes for the bolts.

I am also going to fit checker plate under sump again with some bracing on engine rails for added securty.
But i have been looking ata lot of other forums with same subject and basically u get in too deep and then start analyzing it all.
Basically i dont want chewed bearings, i also dont want to loose the sump to a random rock or other.

I can happily say that the CVD sump will handle being hit with a rock, you can jack your car up on it, I do. In fact I dropped the EJ off the jack the
other day and it fell on the side, not even a dint on the sump. It don't need a bash plate, it is one.
The CVD sump is the only 85mm shorter sump on the market, the rest are lucky to be 50mm and most do not take into account the surge issues and pickup
mods.
I have tested it under all sorts of conditions and am very confident in saying it is the best on the market.

What is the deal with oil pickup is a shorthened one supplied?
If say i do it this way; possible to have yours in hand and do the job on a weekend and then send old/original sump oil pickup back on say
Monday/Tuesday?

Salesman .. nah just hate some of the crap products on the market .....
The sumps are done exchange you send your old one and pickup they send the new one and pickup back. Usually they will send it down without the
replacement one first if you leave a deposit or ask nice. This way you can get the new one and just swap it over and send yours back in the one
action.
You would have to contact Eileen (eileen AT Customveedub.com.au ) and ask for sure though.

Yeh basically thats the way I would need to do it being a daily driver and all.
Couldnt afford to take it off and have it sit and then wait for the shortened model to turn up, shit could take days for that to happen. Obviously u
understand that

Fits like it was made to be there, not an add on.
Why do people in Oz sell such products for more than this. Sorry BuggyBrad but when it comes to some of the gear in Oz the cost outweighs the products
