Kombi Hybrid
G'day,
I am a newbie to this board so please forgive the dumb question.
I have been thinking a lot lately wondering how hard it would be to create a Kombi plug in Hybrid without touching the engine at the back of the bus.
I am really just throwing this question out to the forum as I am mechanically challenged and dont have a lot of time available to learn but there are
lots of people here who could put a couple of thoughts out there. The wheel wells of the front wheels are perfect for the small electrical drive
motors that are used with modern electrical hybrid cars and with most buses there is enough room in back to put in a battery bank that could give you
decent range, ie 60-80kms without need to recharge. You could make it a plug in hybrid as well with not too much trouble or put a solar panel on a
roof rack.
I probably sound like a fruit loop but I think kombis would be perfect for something like that and it would be really cool. I think the hybrid
conversion would cost about $15k but your fuel bills would dissappear for all but the longest commutes.
If someone could help me out or add some comments I would much appreciate it.

I think VW played around with the idea using Kombi's in the 70's but only a few prototypes were made.
