Baja Finally Completed
Body wise its immac, no rust at all! Only in passenger door..... Shame the back has been cut off. Was at 50th anniversary meet in hobart in 2003, had
front mudguards on the back.
Engine was filled up with diesel oil, and blows so much smoke. Keeping the beetle front, baja rear.

I think Will is just pointing out that he's just scored himself another project for a carton of beer.
I don't want to seem rude or impolite, but is there a point to your large signature file?

Managned to get some work done yesterday, bleed the brakes, fitted a new accelerator cable and changed the oil, butstill blows smoke! Rings must be
stuffed but would you beleive you just have to touch the key and she starts!
Got a 1500cc to go in with a baja exhaust then i can fit my rear bar work and paint her! Will be the same colour as my 63, turquoise with a white
stripe.

Bumper overiders thanks to Eddy, cheers bud

Long weekend just gone by........ Had a bit of an accident.
Been using her all weekend at the shack, up and down the beach, cruising, fishing and ran into a little problem. Hit a sand bar which turned out to
have a BIG massive rock in the centre. Nosedived, sprayed sand everywhere and heard a massive crunch.....
Result? Caved the whole front apron in back to the beam, wheel well, and where the id badge goes, buckled it and made a real mess. This is after i have
used a hydrolic jack and a crow bar on the car ramps to straighten her. Very disappointed but lucky, i wasn't hurt.
Overall though, the bug did a great job and after a rough straighten was back to work!!!
And i didn't catch anything except seaweed
And those pics of the Landies, whoops... Dial-Up lol

They last post shows how droopy the front end is. I didn't even think of taking pics of it after the crash. When i get down there the weekend, ill
get some of under the bonnet and under the front guards.
This whole thing could have been avoided if i hadnt swapped my 15" wheels for 14", they have now been swapped back but sill not happy.

You are right the rear end is a bit iffy, but not as bad as a Lada Niva with dual wheels and VW guards on the rear and the top chopped to make it a
cabriolet, unfortunately for him the RTA got him before I could get a picture of the horror. Bugger!

RIGHT! Got off my arse and have done a little to the bug
After the crash i decided that i shouldn't continue wrecking her around the paddocks and the beach so i decided to breath a little life back into her
and make sure she is around for a few more years
Trailered her home,

Started pulling her apart:

checked the front end damage:

After pulling her out she came out a little better, i used a bit of wood, a rubber mallet and a crowbar to bring it forwar a further 3 inches from
where she was after the crash.
Guards off:

lhs door had a couple of holes so out came the filler, guards where re fitted so i could get the contour right when smoothing the ripples out....

Finally got a later model roman nose for the cover and had to shave the edges off with a grinder as she wouldn't fit.....
Floorpan came back in really good condition, needing only a wire brush and a coat of chassis black paint.

Then off came the guards again, and she was all sanded back and ready for the undercoat.

Found a full set of mags plus two spares, painted them too

An old buggy:

provided me with:

And what am i doing now?

As she sits now,

Should be finished real soon but not giving anything else away haha

Yea do everything myself, and yea in the backyard, no problems with bugs or flies which is handy. White 2 tone turned out A1, doing resto tommorow
depending on the weather. Did the mags today and started tinkering with the engine......

I wanted it so it would be a good representation of what could have been built in your backyard in the 70's, thats why i have fitted a period aerial
and wheels

First run up the dunes and she went beautiful!
I changed the wheels over for 15’s on the front and bigger wheels on the back and its a lot better. So im now on the hunt for 15inch wide mags.

After the run up the dunes where she went beautiful, on the way back i nosed dived her again, so a baja kit was sourced and fitted. Now i have more
height at the front and it goes even better on the dunes! a set of reduction hubs have been sourced and will be fitted very soon.
Finished Bajaring Her!!!!

Thanks Mate
The car is registed with restricted vehcle rego meaning that no roadworthy certificate needs to be showed when the car goes in for the application for
rego. The restriced part means you have to specify where you want to drive (within 10km of your address) so i have it so i can use it up the beach and
on the bush tracks etc.
If you want to fully register her, you need to have bar work over the back, and mesh around it in the event of a pedestrian getting a little to close.
You also need rear mudflaps and seat belts (But its a 61!)
Hope this helps,
Cheers Will

Hey Bill, nice work on the Baja, your ingenuity continues to amaze me, haven’t done too much to the 62 yet aside from some cleaning up and
striping.
I'm in the process of rebuilding the workshop and concreting the floor for all the tools I've been collecting (Mill, Lathe, Tig welder all that fun
stuff) and I got back from Antarctica last month so I'll be into Wilson soon enough.
Cheers again mate and I hope you and you old man have more fun.
