Just a quick couple of questions :)

Hi there,
A few questions from a novice.

I have a 74 bug and have a stan pobjoy 1641 running in it at the moment. Needs some TLC and I intend on removing it for just that. I came across a 1600 out of an automatic and would like to run this till I fix the 1641.

It still has the fly wheel attached so I will obviously have to remove this. I also have to find a cover plate for the auto oil. After this is fitted and if I can find another ($?) flywheel (instead of using parts from the 1641) is there anything else I should be aware of before I attempt to fit the motor?
Very novice at this stuff, sorry.
Also I have a close ratio gear box fitted. I think the bloke was wanting to get into racing in hill climbs. Is there a certain type of gear box (model type) I could keep an eye out for, as I use my bug for longer trips and would like to keep the revs down a bit more?
Any info would be great, I've got the idiot guide book but any advice would be very much appreciated!!

When you say 74 do you mean a 74L (super) or the 74 pov (standard)
L is IRS and pov is swing axle

You Mean 1303S Super and 1974 Non Super beetle.. lol

The Auto engine will need a new oil pump -
a standard or H/D oil pump with gaskets
and a normal flywheel - and seal

cheers

I should point out that the ATF/engine oil pump will need to be taken out - You cannot use it without ATF..

try and save the flexplate from damage when removing it
as they are getting hard to find..

You will also need the gland nut that holds the flywheel on from a manual car - easy to find..

the lower bolts on the auto beetle gearbox cannot be taken off without dismantling the auto gearbox...
[something i found out... lol ]
the standard bolts are easy to get...

cheers

come on no arm rests or grab straps i call that pov too
theyre what helped hold herbie together at the end of the love bug

staying OT, newVWa just ditch all the semi auto flex plate and flywheel crap whack a manual flywheel and clutch on there, seal up the vac ports and u'll have to change the oil pump to
if u leave the semi auto one to run dry the engine wont last long
