Type 3 Questions?

I'd like to build a wheelchair accessible car from scratch (the chair rolls in from the side door and the driver can drive from their chair) and think the type 3 may be perfect. I just have some questions?

Can the body be separated from the floorpan like the beetle? If so does anyone have a picture of the floorpan?

I heard the auto gearbox is rare and expensive and there are not many working any more. If this is true is it possible to transplant and old Subaru engine/gearbox like the EA81? I've seen a lot of VW based trikes using these to make them automatic.

How much/does anyone know of anyone selling a type 3 with a really bad body but good floorpan in SA? I don't need the body.

The body will be a custom fibreglass shall, probably a 20s style hotrod body because they are easy to get and would have enough headroom.

In case you're wondering I've already checked with the SA Department of Transport and they said there shouldn't be any problem getting it registered.

yes its the same and can be driven if you have a back support for the engine otherwise the engine and gearbox will hang down

most trikes use the back sub frame from the type 3 as this unbolts and has all the rear suspension attached

Is the floorpan flatter than the beetle? Or does it also have the tunnel in the middle?

Does anyone know of a cheap type 3 in SA with a junk body. The few that I have seen around the body is too good to destroy.
