fitting a 2L g'box into "early" bays

hey
im just curious is it possible to put a 2L g'box in a "early" bay window? by early i mean 68/69/70 and i think 71? or the 1600 model?
and do these have the same size engine bays as the later ones?or are they the same as a 67?
cheers

rhys
the early 1600 kombi ( i think up to 71)had a smaller engine bay to suit the 1600 tinware so I gues it would be similar to the 67
also the 68-71 had the gearboxes bolted to the fork underneath whereas in 72 the gearboxes bolted to the top of the engine bay
it is easy enough though to bolt the early bell housing to a 2 ltr gbox to fit into the early bays not sure if you might have to clearance it a bit though as a 2ltr gbox is a bit bigger than the 1600 gbox
in 72 with the introduction of the type 4 engines the engine bays got bigger to take the bigger motor
these later kombi's which still came with a 1600 had larger tinware to fit into the type 4 engine bays
the 72 that i drove in the parade has a 1600 with the larger engine tin
