Dash Question

Hey Guys,

My wife has a '74 dub with a plastic dash.

She is really keen to change out that dash for a metal dash from i think it is a 60's model dub. Can this be done and is it easy to obtain a metal type dash?

Thanks

depends if its a superbug L or not
if it is an Lbug dash like this then no

but if its a standard pov pack flat screen like this then yea the metal dash is just hiding out under the padding

Hey welcome to the forums !!!

If it's an L bug, then nope - you're staying with the plastic (L bug's are the ones with the really curved windscreen).

If it's a standard bug then the original steel dash is actually still lurking there underneath the plastic - just with extra holes in it here and there to mount the crash padding, air vents etc. Not a simple job to get it all back to standard - bit of welding and painting involved - but do-able I guess.

Oh - I should've said too - if it is a standard and you do go back to the steel, be careful when you're taking the crash padding off - I know of a few people who've wanted to go the other way and update their steel dash to the later setup.
