Brissie Storm from Hell
We got water come into the house in a few places, and had no power still when I left for work this morning (ironing a shirt with a cold iron isn't
very effective). A huge 50cm or so diameter tree across the road was snapped in half.
Most of the traffic lights were still out on the way in this morning, it made the traffic flow better 
ps - I can't get the linked images to work from the couriermail website

We were really lucky we sat on the verandah with friends and had drinks and watched the storm no damage whatsoever and we kept our power.
We seem to be in a protected pocket of the suburb * crosses fingers and toes for next time*
Worst storm in 25 years some are saying comparisons to cyclone Larry ?

I got 65mm of rain at Bracken Ridge. I knew the storm was going to be a good one as Brownie at VW show was watching it come from NSW. He then rang
someone he knew at the weather bureau and got the gist of what was going down and where.
Trophies were done fairly quickly and everyone scooted for home. I got home and was about to mow my yard when I looked at the sky and literally
watched it turn from dark grey to green in a matter of minutes. I had multiple doona's, blankets etc etc on my cars prepared for the worst when the
storm front literally changed direction and miss me by not a lot at all.

We were in the thick of it when it hit Caboolture driving home from Fraser in the baja bus , and wasn't that an experience .
Lets just say the the old girl was very keen on changing lanes all on its own from the huge side winds which if you've ever driven a baja bus a never
nice at best let alone what yesterday through at us .
On a good note though , i did my daily dead yesterday just before the storm hit us at Caboulture and helped out a stranded kombi owner who was at a
loss to why his kombi didn't like being slowly driven in the sunny coast usual sunday arvo crawl back to brissy at a whopping 125c ,apparentley your
heater tubes should actually go some where not blow hot air all around the engine bay , mind you its just a rumour i heard

there waas no room for my car inside so it braved the storm with its cover on... no hail but found a puddle on the floor under the dash... looks like
it still has that leak from the fresh air vent hose...
can anyone reccomend a company that do small garage sheds?

We got smashed at Albany creek,neighbour had his shed in his front yard not the back!,trees down everywhere power out till 6am today!!!, had to pretty
much drive around australia to get to work from all the debris.Not a good afternoon on sunday still cleaning custom vee dub shirts from the neighbours
yard haha!!, my heart goes out to all the cyclone victims in the past, it must have been pure hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were right in the middle of it at Keperra. I don't know what its like to be in a cyclone but I can confidently say it sure felt like one. My
family had to stand in the middle of the house away from the windows I thought they were going to explode from the amount of wind and hail on them. It
was like watching waves smash into them. The side of my house lost the paint of it in parts from the force of the hail and water has soaked all our
insulation in the roof and run down the lounge room walls but compared to the people in the next street we had next to no damage at all. The yellow
bug was locked up in the shed surprisingly still got covered in water though. I always enjoy a good storm but this one was not fun!!!

Then they need to build better houses. With the weather predicted to get to cyclone status in the Brisneyland area ie. have a cyclone season like the
northern parts of Queensland in the next 10-20 years, then I think there will be a serious re think about the building standards of houses in the
South East. There part way through implimenting some tougher standards now,and it's long overdue.Very few newer houses suffered structual damage in
Cyclone Larry to the extent they were uninhabitable without a tarp on the roof,same as some of the old concrete houses built by the Italians many
years ago.They even use a shed as an example...20m x 15m shed suffered no damage at all except from impact damage to 1 side.It was built to the
standard of W60 rating,the one next door was W40 and was gone.And plant more palm trees...they tend to bend instead of break.Having ranted I do feel
sorry for the people who copt it..

Just found out one of my wife's friends have lost their entire roof and nearly everything in the house is water damaged. Cannot live in it and are
awaiting the assessors to come tomorrow and get the ball rolling. They are currently madly moving stuff out of the house before the rain becomes
heavier as predicted. We got another 35mm of rain at work today and the forecast is for heavier falls for the next day or so. Plus another storm
tomorrow arvo plus a trough moving through that will carry another storm on saturday. Should make life miserable even more for those who have houses
that are damaged/destroyed.
Cudos to the local people in the affected areas offering help and support.

just back on line now! at arana hills it hit BIGTIME ,trees uprooted and dumped on houses
I have two holes on in the roof and the guttering ripped off,power didnt come on till
this morning ! had to start a new job yesterday, now its pissing down hope the tarps hold !!

Bit of rain and wind??!
Stupid comment MickH!!
Client in the Gap that we finished a renovation for just one month ago lost a large section of their roof.
Every roof tile was cyclone tied too. A flying tree hit the corner of the roof and broke it allowing the wind to get under.
70 year old couple with no help and no power for a couple of days...
Compassion to people's suffering is a better response.

I have cyclone ties on most of my roof tiles, but everytime a tradie comes over to do something in the ceiling they lift the tiles up and loose the
cyclone ties in that area.
They reckon the winds were 130kph.

But it was just a bit of rain and wind....so why was that a stupid comment???? 15 minutes of "storm" compared to several hours of "real"
storm....no comparison to a cyclone.....which was what I said in the first place. Not taking anything away from the storm though...it was a good one
but definetly NOT a cyclone..

Now don't get me wrong,I do have sympathy for the people who have been affected (hello liddle sista),but the government/builders and councils need to
get their fingers out while they can and do more preventative measures to limit damage in the future. Can't half tell there is an election comming up
and nothing else on for now to make news headlines.

Part II just hit us out Amberley/Ipswich way.
Both of my sheds got flooded, the worst was about 30cms at the peak. Unfortunately thats the one with my engine sitting just about floor level in it
as well as tools sitting on carboard boxes.
I lost most of my front fence when half the horse paddocks upstream hit it and bent it almost flat. Not sure whats happened to all the plants yet -
will have to wait till daylight for that.
The neighbours were just about to abandon their place and head for my verandah as their place is ground level and mine is 750mm raised. I say wheelie
bins, tubs, basketballs and sheets of tin floating down the street. The bow wave of the SES truck was up across their windshield and a 4WD that tried
to get out of a side street was pushed backwards with the water pressue.
Guess I will have to call in late for work tomorrow and try to clean up the mud and crap everywhere before it really starts to stink out the place.

I got home about 10.30pm last night just as the deluge started. Massive thunder and lightning. some of the thunder rumbled for nearly 15 seconds at a
time. I got to work and checked the rain gauge and it had 102mm in it!!! that was emptied at 3pm yesterday. Scrubby Creek at Kingston near the go
karts is about 400m wide and is only just under a foot below the bridge on Kingston rd. It is tidal so I guess it could make life interesting....
