Vehicle Transporter for Portland

We all know Portland is a long way to travel, so who would be interested in sharing a transporter to portland. Depending on numbers, it may be viable but we must also factor in getting the people down as well, and then accomodation, and even transport to Portland (eg hire cars or whatever)

I have phoned a truckie I know and after speaking to a recommended carrier, I need to send some details to at least get an idea of costs. At this stage some of you have expressed interest, so lets get the ball rolling.

Post here if your interested, so I'll go top

Matt Berry

cheers

Pagey said to me that car hire from Melb was probably the best option, then accom at Portland.....
Sure will add up, then towing down starts to look more viable, can carry camping gear and becomes more in my price range.

Truck would carry 6 - 8 cars.

So I gather if we rented a transporter, there 'might' be two cars on it.

Any one else or are you ALL driving down?

Yeah, I'm driving down Matt,
by the time you pay for a flight and hire a car, and the actual transport cost,
I think I will be better off.
Also depends on what tools and spares people take...it would all have to be packed into the race car.
I am going to stay down for an extra week or so as well.

I think by the lack of response that your not the only one Dave.
Pete and I did come up with the same conclusion, but I did say I was gonna offer up the truck idea so we could at least go through the exercise.

I dont know if I could afford to go at all, but would certainly like to.:tu:

Hey matt, I would have been keen to exlpore the idea of car transporter further however it looks like I may not be able to get down to portland at all. We have decided to finally make the trek to the US for the vw classic next June and therefore our finances won't stretch to both events unfortunately. I've been wanting to go to the classic for years but have not had the chance.....plus my turbo engine won't be ready in time for portland and its a long way to go just to race a 1200cc powered oval :)

maybe send all the people a PM who said they may use the transporters when you first mention it.
We dont have a car float so we would have to hire one for a week  and when i tow a trailer my car nearly uses twice as much fuel ,so its all about the cost.
thanks ian
