1958 beetle rear drum removal
i need help taking off the rear drum from my 58, to replace the pad retaining pins.
none of the manuals i have help, they just say 'remove drum'!
is the castelated nut part of the drum or is it separate? i know they are on tight to hold the bearing in, but nothing i try works.
if those more experienced than i could point me in the right direction that would be a big help. i havent been able to drive it since i got it 2
months ago!

Howdy
Well i'm glad you asked
Yep those nuts are on there tight
You will be needing a 36mm axel nut removal tool and a locking tool
Look for them on ebay or OZtion
Ohh what a slick bit of self promotion

yep that nut should be so tight that u will need a long bar to undo and as the car will be up a long piece angle iron bolted to the drum through the
wheel nut holes will stop it turning as said before a long bar and a 36 mm socket will be needed
good luck oh and the reverse is the same when you think its tight tighten it more

Replace the wheel and put the car back on the ground to undo the big nut - it is real tight. You will need a solid breaker bar - like, a quality one -
and probably a bit of pipe to jump up and down on

Try one of these suckers.

I used one on the flywheel bolt and it was so easy, little bit of pressure and it cracked easy - wheel nut should be the same.
