Anyone here score this '61 vert?

1961 Aussie Delivered Karmann Cabriolet

I've been watching this for a few days. It went for $14,455.

Reckon i would be happy with that in my yard

Nice project car.

I am not sure how many '61 Cabrios were brought in by VW Australia; I had not heard a number as high as 30 before. I thought it was less than 6. Unfortunately the FCAI's sales data for that year only specify 'VW 1200' for a model, so there is no data for cabrios, if any.

Can someone else clarify? John?

i dont think so

At best what you would have seen is a chop top

the closest i have seen is a RHD 1303 cab for similar money - and these were as common as

An original RHD 61 vert - well ...... how many did you see at your last show??

sad thing is for how solid and complete it is thats not to bad a price
thats about what i was expecting it to go for

Barry, funny thing at the gold coast show last month
5 cabs and 1 choptop  i was in shock

custom bugs never get anywhere near whats been spent on them
original stockers are the ones that hold their value

Wow, very rare. Looks like what my Dad would call 'Rommell's staff car', though perhaps a touch too 'modern' for that. :)

Pete.

Yes they are NOS 1961 Melbourne Motor Show specials. They are now in the Sims museum of recycling alongside the Porerra kit and some other great Aussie VW additions ;)
