Syncro for Sale

ALMOST:grind:

Situation.

I am loosing coolant?

Replaced Radiator (new)$$$
New SS coolant disperser tower, drivers side rear 4way branch.
New Expansion Tank + cap.

Here's whats happening;
Expansion tank coolant level drops and the coolant reservoir wont push fluid into expansion tank. Or rather expansion tank wont take up from reservoir.

Been Bled several times, no air bubbles present.
There is a slight stutter on startup.

Other than that everything is GREAT.:grind:

How much is a Dual Diff locking Naked Syncro Transporter worth?????

are you opening the heater when you bleed it ? all pipes flowing free ? any water in the oil ?

Brad
Why copy when you can own an original ?

Yeh heater valve open and front poked up in the air.

Water in the oil; don't want to go there.:sniffle:

This is seemingly more probable though.
The stutter i refer to is something like a bad lead, apply a little pressure on the throttle and stutter goes away.

Last bleed i snapped the original bleeder screw, bloody brass. So i am using equal sized steeli for bleeder screw. Makes bleeding difficult. after the last bleed i did i noticed the heater was always pumping hot air even when driving and heater turned to cold air flow.
Had to perform bleed via this method;

becoming a little annoyed.

if the header tank is NOT sucking water from the resevoir the fault is the rad cap. you must use a blue one not a black one.
the reason the heater is on constantly is the heater tap is not closing fully. the tap is located near the radiator fan, the clamp that holds the cable looses its grip slightly, unclip it close it up slightly with some plyers then relocate the cable and snap the clamp back on! its dead easy!! (i'm lying, cos of its location its a bloody nightmare!)

the question "are you losing coolant?" well can you see any coolant? are there any wet or damp patches? look round the pump for calicfied coolant (crusty stuff) if you are wondering is coolant going into the cylinders, well compression comes out of the cylinders easier!! so if your collant appears to be boiling as soon as you crank the motor then you got real problems!
cheers jon

All Brand new VW gear cap + expansion Tank, Blue cap.

Yeh worked out the bloody heater cable thing had a good look under the dash curled up in awkward position around the gearstick under the steering wheel on the floor. I think i did the same operation with my 1st T3. Then jumped underneath and had a closer inspection at heater switch(?). Cheers

NO not loosing coolant, no leaks, no damp patches, old crusty sort of stuff all over engine except around new heads (AMC) maybe 2-3yrs old. No leaking head Gaskets.
Actually not true.
I must be loosing coolant somewhere as 1st posted level in expansion tank keeps dropping and there is no draw in from reservoir.

No instant boil. Syncro runs nicely, i have really been hammering it hard in 4wd mode climbing rocky grades 60+Degree kinda stuff. I can do this for over and hr and no "overheating".
Rad fan cuts in and out a bit but no overheating.

I am going to remove plugs and turn engine over....
Heres hoping.:?:

ok, heres a question. does the coolant level in the resevoir alter what so ever??
i pulled into a servo after doing about 400k's and when i switched off about a pint of water suddenly spewed onto the floor. reasons unknown, and its not done it again. yours might be doing it more often??

NO as far as i have driven it, which is a weekend warrior. And short road trips maybe 60+K's or so.
Due to issue as described.

I am going to give it another load of coolant tomorrow and give it a bash through the bush. (spent today at beach with kids.)

Reservoir level doesnt seem to change.
Expansion tank level drops, but no uptake via reservoir.

Originally before new Rad, Tank and Cap; The expansion tank would almost empty(light on) and fill the Reservoir causing overflow out of reservoir, bubbling hot coolant out until i repeated the process of bleeding. Always chasing my tale with that one. So i swapped out Rad Expansion tank and Cap.
Before i swapped out the Radiator and tank whilst driving home from Yamba late arvo, a return(?) line from radiator blew off, but i think this was because the plastic expanded end had broken off due to age.

Where u going with this Jon

sold right?

HEY Iwish4aSynchro,

Am I mistaken or was that your syncro you sold/withdrew on ebay today? If so can I ask what it went for? Were it still listed I'd have put down a bid for $12400;-)! Who did you obtain the diff-locking boxes from. I'm looking to do the same now that yours is gone..
