BUZ my drag car for Gunnedah & Warwick this year
Hi guys
Can you tell me what gear box do I need for a swing axle for drag racing. I need a used one.
What year model bug?
and what numbers on gear box do I need to look for?
As I'm putting a 1915 in my 58 bug for Warwick this year.

Best stock choice would be a '73 or later 1300 trans.
I think is has an AM code stamped on the under side.
AB code should have the same ratio, but may not be as strong in the first gear and spider gear area.
Other identifying items are a very long clutch arm and bolt-on clutch cable bracket on the side cover.
Also three bolt mount on nose one, that can be changed back over to early style with 7 nuts and a gasket.
But just solid mount that sucker with custom mounts under the bell housing and intermediate studs.(no nose cone mount).

Being swingaxle an L-box is IRS and huge job to convert to swing axle.
Plus the tall gearing will slow you down, especially in the first 1/8 mile.
A more common 1500 beetle tranny is also a good option,
but the 1300 has lower gearing,

I had fun getting it down the side of the house with just a handbreak that almost didn't work. Yeah I also thought that I looked very funny like a

It's funny a few people now have thought that Ian is my day as well so I must be doing alright I think its halarious when they ask
can I go get my dad to talk to about the vw's.
Thanks heaps I would love the exhaust, are you going to Hawks nest car show or maybe someone from up there is going to go to the show next month that
could bring it along. Does it have a muffler?
Or is someone coming down before then would be great to get it going soon as I'm thinking about taking it to Gunnedah for a run end of next month.
