Not something YOU see every Day - 1303S

NSW Highway Patrol 1303S...

the Policemen were real....
the Police motorcycle was Real..

the 1303S was Real..... but NOT really a police car...

they had permission to do up the car for the Day Only...

I think it was at the nationals... years ago...

I took the pic many years ago at the VW nationals..

I think it was when the nationals were at the football
place...??

maybe 10 year ago...

Sorry, I didn't ask where they were from etc....
they had permission to be there - maybe a public relations thing to show that Highway patrol officers are human and can own a beetle.... ??

They were Highway Patrol...

cheers

LEE

The officer on the right is the late Dallas Tidyman, who was with the NSW Police training centre at Goulburn. He was an enthusiastic Club Veedub member, and built the Superbug in his spare time especially for display at the Nationals. With his help, the police were supporting the show. Yes it was at the old venue, the Valentine Soccer Federation headquarters at Parklea, some time around 1995 I think. He was a great guy, and those who were there will never forget him riding his police bike, in full uniform, into the canteen! He was later killed in the line of duty, at Boorowa I think.

Hi

After Dallas died the club had a run down to the Goulburn academy where Dallas was an instructor, to pay our respects.

A story was told of how Dallas and his colleagues would taunt new recruits, he would ask to to chase him around the training track, he was in a Beetle, the recruit in a V8 police car, they never caught him, he was very good driver and a VW nut to the core.

Hi
I've just joined the site and I've just been looking through the different forums and I came across this one on the late Dallas Tidyman. I knew Dallas in the 1970's before the joined the Police Force and he drove a VW back then. Thankyou for bringing back some wonderful memories. What a shame that I can't download the photo, for some reason I can't get it to work.
