Help Identifying truck - Dodge Fargo 1936?
Hi Guys
I bought my boyfriend this truck a couple of years ago for his birthday. We both loved her when we saw her and thought she'd be a good project (then
i bumped the beetle and she's had the garage space ever since...i'm not popular!).
Anyway we've tried to track down what model the Dodge is. We know she's a Dodge Fargo approx 1936 but as you can see from the pics as some point
someone has gas axed the rear to make her a flat bed for farm work.
We want to restore her to original (as much as we can) but we cannot find a pic of the original back.
Things we do know is that she was made in Oz under the manufacture of T.J.R (stamped into the engine compartment) and she once had full metal back to
front (not a tray or a tub). we've been told this type is common for utes of this age.
Anyone have any ideas where to start?
We need a pic of it front front to rear and the rear view.....good enough so we can rebuild it from the pic.
I've spent hours on google and sites looking for images but there are no originals just rebuilds.
pics below
Thanks
Kaz

T.J.Richards of Adelaide were the body builders. Your best bet would be to contact the Chrysler Restorers Club. That will make a nice truck.
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

Can't help ya with the back but I can visualise what it would have been (doesn't help much!) It needs to be in a shed along with that old FC holden
next to it

When I saw Fargo I thought it may have been similar to the mid North Coast Motors tow truck from back in the sixties but it was a fair bit newer than
your little beauty and had a hand cranked winch on the jib,the old flathead was probably the same. Many a time coming up Buladelah with a kombi on the
back she would jump out of gear leaving you scrabbling for anything you could get it into.Good luck with the project.

Thanks for all the comments.
Don't worry she's garaged, the pics outside were from when we picked her up.
Mactaylor - would love to see pics of your 37 roadster.

Very nice truck, even as a flatbed.
You've probl'y already seen these two photos; I have no idea whether the back is original or re-invented.

Cheers guys, those pics are really close but the tray is separate. On ours it a full front to back, one sheet of metal (well probably not but you get
the idea)....kind of like the Holden Ute. If we can't find anything the tray on the pics Modulus posted will have to be the way forward.
I'm trying to do some research on T J Richards and see what i can find that way. If we ever track down the details i'll post a pic.

If you are still looking for details on your 1936 Fargo ,please contact me ,as I have a 1936 Fargo Pickup that I have had for many years that is in
the process of being Hot Rodded. I do however have a picture of what your utility bed looks like as I have collected many photos over the years
researching mine. One photo is of a brand new Fargo , I believe was taken in 1936 outside J.R.Richard's factory. I can probably put you in contact
with a guy in northern New South Wales who had and for all I know still has a 1936 Dodge utility that has the same shape bed as your's would of had.
Will also send you a copy of the 1936 sales Ad showing your body style on it when we make contact. Could dig up some other items that may interest you
at the same time. |

Mactaylor, i got you mixed up with monaro gts. Sorry about that. however, if you have any pics of yours before you started i would really like to see
them. I have a 37 rag top and have just started researching it before i decide what to do with it. It would seem they are pretty few and far between.
So anything anybody could share would be great to see.
Where do i find the attachment button?
Kazandmyrtle, the differences between Dodge, Fargo and Plymouth are really only skin deep. Take down the numbers off the firewall, and i will see if i
can help. I think i have a copy of the ad for your truck. |

I dragged mine out and mocked it up 2 weeks ago and thought it was about time to do something with it. Its only taken about twenty years.

Hey 37roadster, Thanks for the pics. MonaroGTS turned out to be the Man to Go To for this one. He sent me some amazing details and pics of our
models. I actually wrapped them up as an extra for my boyfriend for xmas......as it turned out should have just wrapped those up.......all he looked
at for the entire xmas break! lol.
I have a pic of what it should look like from a photo he sent me so will try and post after this if i can find it on my pc.
We've actually just moved and now have a huge shed so hopefully we will start on the restoration soon............but then again their are a couple of
beetles and a couple of F100's in the que before the Dodge
I'll look for the pic now. Also HUGE thanks to MonaroGTS, the information you provided was truly amazing.
