KO 200

I had known of this buggy for the last 15 years and when the opportunity came up recently I couldnt pass it up. This buggy makes my fifth buggy over the years and probably not my last. Whilst this one will be hard to top I also have a fibreglass buggy with full country buggy running gear, just waiting for the right body to come along.. and for me to clear some projects.

Anyhow it was from the Central Highlands and was owned by a bloke who used to be the local dealer for Country Buggies in that area. He used the buggy in an Endeavour/ Variety rally in the early 90's and then restored the buggy where it was parked up for a while in a shed, which has no doubt helped with keeping it as good as it is.

Originally it appears to be a green buggy (from areas under the body in the correct colour), although the register has it as a beige ?? But it has nonetheless been painted in a non original shade of green, which I will put up with for the next ten years or so.

Now all I need is a roof - soft-top or glass will suffice and some 15" wheels - as it has 14" at the moment.

Cheers

Peter

Peter,
Great looking CB!
(drool, drool)
Was it that cleaned up when you bought it?
Amazing buy!
(drool, drool)
As I recall from Paul's ad and what he was asking for it, I'd say you got quite a buy for the money.
At this morining's exchange rate, 8,000.00 AUD=5,325.52 USD
(drool, drool)
That would be a steal here in The States!
:spin:

Its actually pretty dirty and could do with a clean - 8 hrs on the trailer didnt help it... but yes Paul kept it in great condition.

Buggy

BJ,

Take another look at the photos - this is what a complete Buggy looks like - get that pile of rusty crap you call a buggy started.

We are now taking two cars on the rally this year - cruiser and the wagon again but with a new motor.

That front bash/skid plate.....I've never seen one.
Was this a option or something maybe someone has fabricated individually?
I've seen those brackets in other pics but never noticed a bash/skid plate before.
This is Erich Kircher's (deceased) KO 519 CB. It has those brackets.

Bash Plate

Steve,

The bash plate is extremely well made out of 3mm steel, but it is the only one that I have seen, there is a 30mm step where it bolts onto the bracket, and if it was an original design I dont think that would have been necessary, which makes me think it was a bit of the aussie ingenuity. So I probably cant answer, and the bloke who built the car has passed away, but I will make some inquiries.

I filled the petrol up today and was happily surprised to see the original Aussie stamped petrol cap in perfect condition (a kangaroo each side of the VW symbol) - I had forgotten that they did that as none of my others had them.

I plan on taking it to the Dubs by The Pie in a couple of weeks.

Cheers

Peter

Peter,
I have always liked the roo logo since the day I first saw it.
It's a very original piece of artwork and readily identifies the place of manufacture.
Glad your new CB has the original item.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I just banged up my little buggy, whilst backing it out of the driveway I turned to avoid on of the other toys and banged the front into a tree as it swung around and the tree didnt move.

I am really pissed with myself - havent put a dent on herbie or any of the other things and the other thing I want to really look after I dent. I will get some photos when I get over the annoyance - I know it is only small compared to some people projects, but it still annoys me.....

sticky valve

Craig,

Not looking good for dubs, I still havent resolved the missing problem - which appears to be a sticky valve - I havent even driven the car 50k's yet :fakesniff:

Will post something in the tech section to see if anyone has any quick fix idea's- am too busy with work to pull the motor.

Will try and get there, even if not in the buggy.

Progress

I finally got the motor out today - after all the dubs I have owned this was the worst. Most dubs usually have the minimalist of screws holding the tinware down - this one had everyone in place, with heaps of bracing from its rallying days.

Herbs motor usually is out within 20minutes - but this on and off would have taken 3 hours (though it is always slower doing it for the first time - okay my first girlfriend may not agree with that statement)

No 1 Exhaust valve was recessed by about 5mm and I had bought a spare 1200 motor recently with some okay heads, so the machine shop is going to build one up from the two.

Hopefully it will be back running for the weekend - then just have to fix that dent....:grind:

What is happening with everyones else;s buggies - not a lot of posting going on

Cheers

Peter

KO 200 Back on the road

After 4 months off the road (mainly due to being busy with work) and trialling several different heads (all were crap) I finally got hold of a good set.

Once installed the motor went perfect straight off the bat...

So the buggy is back on the road...

now the wife wants me to get the Kombi Ute going so she can have her garage back

So when is the next dub show ?

needs a clutch

I can see my relationship with the buggy is getting off to a rough start, after having the mishap with the tree and then having to pull the motor with having done less than 50klm in it, it appears I will be pulling the motor again.

When I had it out I thought I would replace the clutch but Mick Motors had none in stock, so I thought she'll be right, the limited driving I do in it I thought it would last a while and I was getting anxious to put it back on the road.

The engine is fine, but now with less than 50klm from putting the engine in, the clutch is slipping badly (doesnt help that I live at the top of a hill I guess as that it when it is obvious), but am not going to pull it until I have collected all the parts, as it is going out and in - not sitting in the garage again... fingers crossed.

For sale 8k Brisbane

I will post this in the for sale section in the near future, but due to having two young kiddies (3 & 1) I dont get to drive the buggy anymore and it is just going to sit idle until they would be old enough to ride in it legally.

It is a registered 4 seater, still pretty much as you see it in the photos..

Anyhow just thought I would put the notice up here and will get cracking on a more general advert in the next day or so.

PM or phone 0417 070 661

Cheers
