Dubs By the pie - venue feedback
Ok guys another year is over for our show.
We the Bad little Bug-gers would like feed back from the public. What do you think? good and bad reports wanted.
How we can maybe improve for next year. Go for it.
I myself think everything went well considering that it was a new venue and all, there are some cobwebs to work through though.

Good effort for a new venue.... one question... how many people found the offroaders hiding out the back? There were a few in the main venue, but a
large group out the back....Just curious if people found them, or didnt know they were there.

Over spill happened due to the bloody semi-trailers that sneaked in and parked overnight I think, and the bigger than expected turn out.
Sellers were perched up on that bank, maybe they could be in another area next time for ease of browsing.
Overall, loved it!
Again, great day.
Thanks Guys!

yeah great day,,, But Andrew maybe next year turn the heat down a bit hey? :-)
I think the Pub was a better site tho,,, not bagging the pie place at all, just that everyone , including the general public have a far better view of
the entire package
well done tho,,, we thought it was great & also thought it was an exceptional turn out of Kombis :-)
Thanks heaps for the organisers & the Bad little buggas club & the Humble pie company etc etc etc

Good points - The pub was air conditioned cos it was freakin hot.
Bad points - We didn't fit at that venue. There was cars scattered everywhere, people that got sent to the lower car park would have been
disappointed.
I turned up about last (because I stopped twice to help Ben with a wiring short on his buggy). It was pretty dangerous at that point because we were
backed up down the highway trying to get in. We had pulled off the road but the traffic was going past very close. Then some cars wanted to turn off
and had to try to file into our line, which blocked the left lane of the highway completely.
It was really hard to judge the categories because they were scattered everywhere. I couldn't even find some of the cars that were at Boondall and
that I were sure should be at the pie place. I'm pretty sure a lot of people didn't see us offroaders out the back either, we were hidden away.
I understand those truck trailers in the car park didn't help much.
That's my 2 cents

There were a lot issues that couldn't be anticipated (being a new venue), these included;
The HUGE turnout (perhaps bigger than previous years) causing the scattering of cars (and categories) in both upper and lower carparks.
The lower carpark, if utilised properly, in fact had more room and in future events could be used more effectively. (if using the grassy area as
well)
The turnout also caught the Tavern and humble pie by surprise and i noticed they had difficulty in coping with the demand (the cue at the
humble pie was off-putting) - however, being the first time for them too, next time they will be better prepared.
The turnoff and cue along the highway was interesting, though everyone did the right thing and stayed on the edge, the traffic chaos did upset
a few people (not to mention my poor overheating bug) - this seriously needs to be looked at and the process sped up to avoid any lengthy delays.
Some suggestions i have heard floating around was the 'staggering' or grouping of cars and leave at delayed intervals from boondall.
The trade stalls/sellers are probably best relocated to the grassy area in the lower carpark section - that hilly area out the front is too cramped
and difficult to navigate for both the sellers and the people walking along - not to mention trying to get a vehicle up there to unload.
Never got to see the offroaders - totally forgot about them hiding 'out the back'
BUT
Fab venue in any case - if we can 'hone' out the little issues, and refine the organisation side of things, it would be spectacular - i think its a
keeper.
(this could be as simple as getting more volunteers to help out during the day)
The quality and quantity of cars are getting better each time and its good that everyone is making an effort to come along - thanks to everyone.
Mostly, thanks to those who dedicated their time to organise this, its a HUGE job - you did a great job and you pulled it off.
Keep up the good work
cheers
Daniel

In regards to the swap area folks , sorry to say that is where it must stay as the health department apparently have rules in regards to proximity of
dirty car parts etc and a food outlet .
Mabey we can mow the grass down the end next year as a service to the Pie people and use this more for the swappers / offroaders but as my good wife
pointed out in the intial post it is only the first year at this new site and we new it would take this show to iron out the bugs so to speak .

Hey all!
Well in the end I was able to make it - very late. Had a colleague run the 2nd half of the seminar I was giving, so managed to leave at 11 and get to
the venue at about 12. Didn't take the dub though as my girlfriend gave me a lift and my car is still a bit 'in progress' to show her to people who
know what they're looking at. So this is feedback from someone arriving quite late into the day.
1. There were a LOT of Kombis, as others have noted. This was really interesting. Odd how few bugs were there comparatively.
2. We did find the off road section OK. If it's an issue - maybe some signage? If there was some there, we didn't see it. Still, the venue isn't
THAT big, so if you were wandering around I reckon you'd find them. Maybe more of a signed 'entrance' to that area as it was screened off by
gardens etc.
3. This was our first show. One thing that would have been nice would be some way to meet other people there if you're a bit shy and don't know
anyone. This may be a stupid suggestion - but why not have volunteers offer to run guided tours of the place/cars/sections for $5 or $10 a pop,
pointing out cars of interest along the way and offering insight/info about the builds (eg: how rare the T34s are etc, differences between some
models, what 'cal look' and 'rat look' are, maybe time it so some owners are at their vehicles to take questions and so on. I heard a LOT of
blokes explaining features to their partners.) This might be a good fundraiser for the club. Like I said, we'd have paid as it was free to get in.
4. We didn't go down to the lower carpark. Erk. Were there more cars there to see? We could see some dubs parked there but it looked to us like all
the show cars were out the front.
5. Heat was unpleasant. You can't do anything about that - except run it at another time in the year. I'm guessing though that the time has been
well thought through and is intended not to conflict with other events etc.
6. One big benefit that you have with the site is the amount of drive-by traffic. Is it a goal to get joe public through the gates? If so, better
signage and more signage in advance along the highway might jag people out for a sunday motor.
We had a great time, joined the bad little buggers club, and look forward to meeting more local folk that way.
Wearing my business hat, I do reckon there would be ways for the BLB club as organisers to make a little more money out of this event for the benefit
of their members. I'd have stumped up for a gold coin donation or similar if there were a donation box seeing as entry was free. I bought some bits
and pieces, but would gladly have spent money to support the local VW community.
I reckon for the first time at a new venue this was a really great effort. these things are hard to organise! Well done and congrats to the team
involved. Thanks for making this possible.

Hey guys ... you did well for a new venue.
The entry of the cruise was a major concern for me (I seriously feared hearing a sad story)
I think if the entry could be streamlined by using a good number of parking attendants say 10 (like they do at major events e.g. QLD raceway,
Willowbank etc) it would make a few people more comfortable/safe.
It would appear that both top and bottom car parks need to be utilised to the maximum to make it work.
But on the positive side ... have a look at the turnout of cars (particularly kombis) and you know that people love the event and look forward to it.
Keep up the good work and people will keep coming

Hey everyone, had a fab day! There was a huge turnout and the atmosphere was awesome as per usual. I only had two concerns...
1. Cruising from Boondall to the Humble Pie turn off...like baja wes said, having to pull off to the side completely off the highway behind 200 VW's
with traffic aka trucks going past at 100k an hr was a little disconcerting. And all it would have taken was one VW to breakdown or overheat and there
would have been know where to go.
2. I think parking was still an issue at Humble Pie.

The bottom carpark or the one closest to the freeway is bigger?? Put all the cars in there or as many as possible in their respective models(say all
the Kombi's, Type 3's etc) then in the front car park put all the trade displays and beetles etc. there was a bit of this and that everywhere due to
semi's being in the road but you cannot help that.
Definately more parking attendants to get everyone in a spot quicker and all parking in the same direction(either nose in or reverse in).
Hard to allow certain numbers of each model as it varies every year but maybe a prebooking system with non refundable deposit so that way you get an
idea on numbers. Offer incentives for early birds like first 50 cars get XYZ items in thier goodies bag.
Other than that I had a good day and so did my mate who is a first timer to a VW show of that size. Even talked about buying one in the future LOL

1. stop people complaining they were hard done by, nothings good enough etc & try some manners, disappointing attitudes within earshot almost all
day
2. DEFINATELY stagger the cruise, i was sitting there rather early to avoid the traffic, since im not in a vw i figured theres not much point anyway
but the ones that didnt cruise seemed to get in without problems & the guys at the roundabout when you got there seemed to know exactly what was
going on, hats off to them.
3. more room for the swappers/trade stands, that hill is pretty terrible for browsing & trying not to slip down when walking through people,
again, where did politeness go?
4. better signage according to the signnificant other, as in for the various categories
5. perhaps pre registration to avoid the slow entry, why not do it at boondall?
6. for the offroader crowd, yes found you all, made up for the positioning for the decent display all together
7. ...whens the next one?

Yep, great day guy's, well done!
Just echoing the info above, slow to get in and park isn't nice on a hot day. Perhapse you could stagger the parking, not the cruise. By that I mean
have everyone cruise together, and park temporarily off the main highway, and let them in gradually.
No matter how many attendants you have, and well orgainsed, you still have 300+ people trying to park a car at the same time, and that ain't gonna
happen quick..
The parking was also less than ideal with cars spread all over the plave, I ended up in the small car park next to the bottle shop, so am sure not
many noticed we were part of the show for voting purposes which is a shame.
Bring on next year

Ye we noticed that and all will be taken in concideration for next year. Different car parking plan will be thought out for next year which will
hopefully take place and a different place for swappers. Hopefully all cars together in the same catergory etc etc etc. If our speaker system did not
fail we could of told people to look every where for cars, which would of helped a lot more.

Nice venue but realistically a bit small. Especially if categories can't be kept together, it was terrible to have some of our category out the front
whilst others were hidden round the corner. The fact that the majority of buggies/offroad cars were hidden out of view was not fair for the category,
the club, the punters paying their 10 bucks and most off all to the sponsors who supported the categories.
I understand there was a PA problem??? maybe this added to the issue ie people could have been prompted to go around the corner etc. nevertheless not
really fair on the offroaders.
I found it hard voting on other catergories which seemed to be spread all over the place, just when you thought you picked your winner you would come
accross another car in the class parked amongst others........made voting difficult and most likely inconsistent.
I know organising events can be hard and it was the 'first time' at the new venue but having enough room is critical to the success overall.
Like the feel of the venue but just not sure it suits without some rethinking on use of space.
cheers
thanks for organising the day and opportunity to provide feedback

to the organisers, thank you for organizing what seemed to turn out to be a very challenging event for you as a 1st time venue by the feed back so
far. This was my 2nd dubs at the pub/humble pie and i thouroughly enjoyed being a part of the day. the entry to the venue certainly had its moments
with the general traffic but everyone got in and no damage done from what i saw (nothing bent and no tears). the instructions as laid out by ashley
prior to departure were clear enough however not followed, this may have been a good thing in the end as, if we had all turned up at the same time it
may have made the traffic worse.
the parking in catagories will no doubt be handled differently should this venue turn out to be a regular gig and obviously be a little fairer on
those that made a conserted effort to present some of the finest examples i have ever seen. i am sure the humble pie and its attached pub did a
roaring trade and would be more than happy to work towards an improved dubs at the humble pie in 2010. thank you also to the breakfast providers at
boondall, the unsung heros that kept us fed prior to departure.
a great job by all and looking forward to the next opportunity to use a little fuel. 1970 fasty

Hi All
Boy this thread has been a great read! Thanks for all of your input it is very much appriciated good or bad.
Boy what a day! We didn't expect the truck trailers! (Which kind of stuffed our parking plan, as that was part of the kombi area). We didn't expect
so many kombi's (how good was that!).
We'll review the parking plan for next year!
I went home via the road that the Humble pie is on heading towards Brisbane, I think that it would be a much better way for the cruise to enter the
show as it would get us off the highway. All we would have to do, would be to take the new Kilcoy exit, then exit off that on to the road to the
humble pie. Sitting on the side of the highway with cars going pass at 100k's is not fun and something that we have to stop!
One thing for sure, I am glad that we didn't have the show at the old venue this year. I have been helping with the event for many years, and this
year we had a great turn out. Imagine trying to fit the number of cars we had this year into the area that Ettamogah allowed us to use! We were only
ever allowed the northern end of the car park at Ettamogah. We have counted the spaces and there is more at the Humble pie (main carpark)with wider
roads within the car park, plus the lower area and if we could utilise the grass area out the back more we should have heaps of space! We may even be
able to get the pub on side now they believe us! (they were overwemed with the amount of people). To be able to use some of their car park!
One other thought is to ask the property owner accross the road, if he would let the on lookers park over there at a small charge. This could free up
even more room!
Once agian thanks for your input.
On behalf of the Bad Little Bug-gers Vee Dub Club thanks to everyone who attended and thanks for your support!
P.S Guy's have a look at our website http://www.blbvw.org.au as we try to have
regular monthly cruise's some great ones coming up! Dubs shouldn't be the only cruise!!!
Regards Ashley.

great venue heaps more room than the Pub
As there appeared to be more Kombis than anything else would it be better to put then down the back on the grass area heaps more room for them there
and they could be layed out in year models etc etc make teh judging easier
that would allow all the bugs/ type 3 ,ghias , buggies to be together and more room for the traders and swappers

Yes the red manx won best offroad kit car
one last suggestion if I may : any chance we could have catergories that have the word buggy in them?? Just would help us promote buggies and the
buggy lifestyle. Would also be fair on the buggy bnuilding businesses that sponsor the trophies etc. just an idea
thanks again for a great gathering of the faithfull

i attended as a passenger..
a) the line up on the highway shoulder was extremely dangerous and a wonder that nobody got hurt with north bound traffic wizzing past..
really this is a safety issue for participants and needs to be drawn to the organisers attention for some other entry route to the venue if possible
as a suggestion
b) the swap area was another safety issue where people had to negotiate uneven surfaces to look at the sellers wares as this maybe considered for the
next event..
overall not a bad day n the beer was nice n cold
