What do you think about these main and big end bearing surfaces?
By the looks, looks like a stock 69mm vw crank.
I stripped the motor completely cause every conrod was able to rock back and forth (slightly) when pushed back and to front of motor.
They weren't sliding across, or moving while pushin in and out, just were rockin at an angle.
I was after a more experienced opinion. Thanks for looking. Any help much appreciated!

69' baja: kombi box, thing spindles, irs, disc front, type 3 rear drums, 2 inch lift kit, 31x10 rears.
New engine in process: 94mm p&bs, 74mm C/w chomol Crank, 35.5x39 SP heads, turbo. Wierd combo, hopeful torque monsta!

Looks like time to have the case and crank mic'd, may just need polish (un likely) but bearings look pretty shot.

That key way is shagged.
Remove all the bearings and torque the case and rods to spec with all nuts and bolts.
Take it to a place that can measure it all for you.
The crank may take a polish,(and a keyway repair!!!!!!)
but without measurement I am just guessing to ease your pain.
I would say your reason for disassembly was of no concern.
But the keyway repair required a total strip down anyhow.

Thanks guys. I had a feeling.
With the economic stimulus package coming in i might just go buy a 2nd hand running 1600cc motor and keep the remaining half decent bits (if there are
any, everything is pretty shagged, pistons, barrels, even heads are corroded and look wierd on the inside) to build something bit more gutzy.
Unknown condition seems to be a friendlier statement for describing completely rooted 
luck of the draw i guess!

Mate, it really shouldn't cost much to get the case line bored and the crank reground. Then it's new bearing and away you go and I wouldn't of
thought the keyway would cost much either. Find out first before you thro it away.

Yeh, it would be better to have one motor that you know is in reasonable nick than two or three second hand who knows what? My 2c.
Spend a little bit of money and rebuild the bottom end.

get some 1200 wet n dry paper n cut into strips bout the width of the crank journals and polish back n forth to remove all the crap from the
crank
you will have to get a micrometer n measure the ovality in the crank so at 90 degree increments to see if its out of round or worn NO SHORT CUTS
HERE must be measured properly
you will find if the cranks been ground or what ever USE NEW BEARINGS regardless and you will have a good long lasting engine
BUT prior to all that as per dangerous clean the case and bolt together and have it checked to see if it can or needs machining on the face
or the tunnel this is the NUMBER one priority if the case isnt good then the engine wont be any good regardless of what you do to the crank or
bearings
Unfortunatly the BOTTOM end of a VW is the weakist link n if it aint strong then u aint got an engine
