Am making the assumption that this CB is the one shipped over to the UK from the mid north coast NSW last year and sold to Gavin at South West Splits in the UK..
If this is the case, this is KO0503
Others may know more about this great looking ratter. I will bet it turned some heads in the UK.

VW folks are a wierd mob, they spew and abuse somebody who jacks up an oval and makes it a useful machine on anything other than a tar road yet like this abortion of a machine? Different strokes I spose but for me that's what makes VW's appealing is their practicality as standard machines. This lowered machine is only useful for sitting in a parking lot impressing bogans ..............time to arc up boys, tell me how wrong I am. :dork: Must be time to trim your mullet fringes if you recon this machine looks good.

Pastit,
Like you I prefer the classic VW and particularly the classic Country Buggy but I am not adverse if someone wants to drop one down and drag its arse on the ground. It will wear out sooner than later.
At least the bogans saves it from becomine a foot square pile of metal at Mr Simms.
I think someone must be putting something into the fertiliser which may be giving rise to arcing up and making the mullet stand on end.

Stick in the mud old fart

I have bin thinking about your post Bill, maybe I am being a bit of a stick in the mud. As you know I have been trying to get a CB over the last 10 years or so and am always too late or the machines are out of my reach dollar wise. Thinking outside the box as you suggest could be the answer to my idea of a practicle off road VW.

I have a rust free Oval but it is a bastard case, 54 body, 57 pan and I think a 58 36HP engine. The answer is to Baja it, cut the front and back off and lift it up. The boot/bonnet lids and guards are original but will chop just as good as later ones. I will have a good useful machine offroad and bonus of being dry when it rains having a soild top instead off canvas. And as you suggested at least it would be used instead of not being used or worse crushed as nobody seemed to want it even with a reserve just over $2000 on a well known auction site.

Busy for a couple of days but I might get the oxy out at the weekend and start to make a practicle machine out of it. Thanks for wake up call and making me rethink my outdated ideas.

the reason most ppl just bitch when a mod is done that cant be reversed without any major reconstructing, espeically to an old and rarer car
hacking a oval up for a baja requires reconstructive surgery to reverse, lowering just means a few bolts undone here and there

a mate of mine has KO 002 sitting rotting in his back yard waiting to go to sims
i really wanna make a german look CB out of it dumping it like rhetts and putting some 17" turbo twists on with a nice paintjob and a turbo type4 in it
i can just imagine the outrage that would cause amounst the purists

Joel, you won't get any bitchin from Bill or myself. If it's yours then do with it what you want. I had a quick look at my Baja project this afternoon and thought I might rip some paint off, there's a cacky blue colour underneath so I think I'll just put the new green paint over the lot, with a roller.

I'm not sure where to cut the front guard under or over the headlight or mebe through the middle and mount a tractor light under?

I do not see anything wrong with positive mods like beetle pan and IRS...disc brakes and a few more horses will make my CB a daily drive equal to the rest of the traffic.. with the blown engine more than equal...

Pastit,
That has to be the best looking piece of blue guard I have ever seen- does it match the rest of the car if the brown was removed?. Pity the price of Beetles (including Ovals) had hit a brick wall even before we had this world wide credit problem. It dont eat much sitting in the shed for a time where things improve.
Not a bloody Moke- make sure it has the larger size tyres otherwise the dogs will piss on the tyres and it ends up all over the seat. Might not impress the Boss.

 Tssgot big wheels on it, rebuilt, painted, new engine and still about $12,000 cheaper than I could get a CB for. I might hang onto the Oval, the rest of the paint is like that underneath. Might spend some time scraping and wiping, the blue might be cacky but it's still better than the best of the seventies burnt orange.:dork: I'll get together that tat and send it tomorrow hopefully, no charge I'm only goana chucket anyway.

For those who are interested...

There are reportedly 3 country buggies in the U.K. There is mine, Bens and another unknown one. Does anyone have any clues as to who owns or where the unknown one is located?

The strange thing is that mine and Bens both went on sale last month. I bought mine yesterday and Bens is still up for sale.

Just to fill you in, Bens is up for sale at £5450 ($10,850 AUD).

Neither vehicles are registered here yet. Neither of them has an MOT test certificate for road use. (although mine will have as soon as possible). Both need wiring on the electrics sorting out. Mine does however have an engine whereas Bens does not. (the current engine in it was on loan and so it's being sold without one.)

Anyway, Bens was featured in one of our national magazines (Ultra VW) and i have scanned the article so you can see what work has been done in slamming it so dramatically.

I know where you are coming from.

I too find it a shame that something so rare (especially here in the U.K) has been altered so much. I'm all for custom cars but this is silly. As it is not riding on air or hydraulics, the chassis and lower body are going to take a lot of punishment. I'm planning on keeping mine at the ride height it is now, maybe even jacking it up a little.

I have bought mine to add to my collection of unusual VWs and so the plan is to return it to stock as much as possible. It will reside in my garage as the U.K climate is much less forgiving than yours. ;)
