Flat four quick shifter problems

Just after some info if anyone has ever installed a flat four quick shifter with a wooden T handle in their bug? I bought one over the xmas period from CVW as they were on special. I installed it as instructed but have had many problems since the installation! The first problem was i couldnt find reverse anywhere on it...took it to my mechanic who fixed it and now it wont shift down in to second gear and feels very rough! any help would be great!

thank you!

Kinda sounds like the lock out plate. It needs to be adjusted to the left a little. That's the plate under the shifter base. Undo the 13mm bolts just enough to move the plate a couple of mm to the left and snug back down. You may need a few adjustments to get it sitting right.
