Ignition barrel removal

Gday all, my wifes 72 superbug ignition has stopped working.
The key will not go all the way round, it goes far enough to disengage steering lock but will not fire the starter. I have removed the push on wire cluster (at rear of barrel ??) and hot wired car and everything works fine.
I guess itis a mechanical failiure inside barrel, but i cant work out how the little sucker comes out.
Can they be repaired? Can I get a new one?
very occasionally I think it would be great to have a modern jap car that worked everytime,,,,,,,but thats just occasionally:) Thanks for any info!!
