regulator/genny question.

ok, so my genny light comes on when im driving, belt isnt slipping, its definatly electrical.

the light isnt on at idle, it just comes on with revs which i thought was a bit weird.

genny isnt charging, if u take the + positive lead off the battery while the engine is running the engine dies. normally it would still run. i havent got the multi meter onto it yet but thats pretty obvious.

now what i want to know is if its the reg or the genny? i seem to have the worst luck with gennys on this engine, this will be its third. and is cleaning the points etc in the reg going to help?

gotta drive to noosa tomorrow morning so want to try to sort it tonite if i can.

Nicko

Generators need to be overhauled and the brushes replaced every 100,000 miles or so...

cheers

some regulators are a PITA for that
the one in my first super i had to clean the points in a couple of times a year
it wasnt a bosch one though which probably contributed to the problem
