I HATE VW'S


well not really, just had a 'fun' 6hrs in the garage (i use the term fun loosly) and just wondering how many times a year/month/week/day/hour that anyone else here gets the shits with their volksy to the point they want to get rid of it, but then you wake up in the morning, its all good and you love the ol' bucket of bolts again :kiss::crazy:

well i spent over 6 hours once changing my gear shaft bush and yes i did hate it then. but then again if it wasnt a VW i wouldnt have ever done it anyhow. And it cost me about $10 for the bush.

maybe when i was younger i got shitty at it, but never to the point where i want to get rid of it............ the fact i still have all of my beetles is probably testimony to that.........these days any issues become "it's just what needs to be done"

hopless seller, sucker for accumulating them :rolleyes:

i spent my 6 lovely hours today on a bellhousing brace...:grind: lol all i had to do was remove it, modify a bracket and put it back in.... car had other ideas.....:lol: lol why do we do it to ourselves and why do we love the damn things so much?

its slowly getting there :lol: and i wasnt literally saying i wanted to sell it. even though i have had a mostly holden and chev background, i bought his little bug 4yrs ago as a sad looking, rusty, $600 paddock basher and i guess it got to me and no matter how much it shits me sometimes, id never part with it :fakesniff::lol:

Often think how uncomplictaed my life would be without old VWs, boring but uncomplicated.

I spent about 3 hours today getting bits ready to go to the platers to get nickel plated, still more to do.

Steve, the platers Luke used for bits off his dual cab did the clean up/prep of everything as well...........worked out dirt cheap and much easier than beautifying old bolts, brakets etc himself

mmmmm i still remember last year i had spent hours trying to get to the 4 bolts that hold the motor in. i was black with dirt and grease from head to toe. My VW manual didnt really explain how i take the torque converter off the engine flexplate, so i just gave her a pull she came out but i couldn't pull the motor far enough out to clear the gearbox. After another 2 hours of trying i just got the angle grinder out and took the back valance off, because it was "easy" to find replacements... only now i cant find replacements ;) (that was about a year ago now)

but i still love her :P

hahaha cant say iv heard that one before :lol: but i can see how it might be easier, i once bought a beetle that had been sitting for years and all the motor bolts had seized up. i decided to pull the body off and then i had easy access to all the bolts with a 45inch breaker-bar :lol::lol:

I ran a die nut over all the bolt threads, just getting the mudguard bolts, chassis bolts and U brackets, door locks and strikers, 944 spring plates and struts done.

I used to get it done by De Haviland at Milperra, going to try one that was recommended to me at Silverwater.

4WDs are very useful I just towed a firewood splitter home this morning and Ive already done a years worth of wood for the fire.

Its a love hate relationship....

I just got out to work on the f-n mofo after 3 months of intense study and only parts collecting...
and within 10 f-n mins of working on it...

I slice my leg friggen deeply, resulting in a run to the doctors for a fix and a friggen tetanus shot...
The bleeding stopped so they didn't use stitches... but its still gonna leave a scar... you know... only about 8cm frigge long!

GAHH!! I HATE YOU!
and love you at the same time...
but more importantly at the moment...

mine cracked my forhead open with the teachest door, so i let it's oil out so we were even or so i though then the little bugger didn't put his sump plug in and i was getting a bit sus when i was up to 8 lires ,all i could hear was a chuckel from some where

bringing up an old post as my bug is seriously testing my patience tonight!!! so my meow tonight is about unbolting twin 48idf carbies out of an early bug engine bay.... what the f*#k??? i keep asking myself how the hell did i got them in to start with?!! no clearance for bear claws like mine and its gotta be done with a 13mm spanner as there is no room for a socket between the nut and manifold!!! im soooooo putting the higher clearance tall 11mm nuts when i reassemble it!!! ahhh that feels a little better......
