anyone use a credit card to buy goods from the USA???

Hi
I normally pay for goods/parts bought in the USA & UK with Pay pal.... which works great....
Now I want to buy some VW parts in the USA from a supplier who doesn't use Pay Pal...
He uses Credit cards....??
Has anyone paid for parts from the USA using a credit card???
Do the banks charge much???
{We all know they do every chance they get] lol
Pay Pal doesn't charge much for changing the money over...
anyone know what charges on $300US...??

It will vary from bank to bank. It's the same as making a purchase overseas on holiday. They'll charge a currency conversion fee, which is either
a set charge or a % (I think mine is 1%) of the transaction. They will all make a little on the actual conversion factor used as well of course....
It's not horrendous, just another little gouge from the banks.

Then again, if you knew somebody in the States who had a PayPal account, you could have them buy the part and then you could reimburse them via
PayPal.
Just sayin'.

Hmmm...vwar road crew in action . Lee, I've bought heaps via
credit card from the U.S. As Karmann says, only a small gouge compared to being flayed alive by UPS/FEDEX/DHL on shipping.
If a company won't do US Postal service (U.S.P.S) then they don't get coin off me.
It is mostly safe, but just watch your credit card balance, limit it (1000 AUD max). Just FYI, no store is obliged to dial for authorisation under
$100 in Australia. My workmate has his card flogged from a conference in Sydney and the deadbeats who flogged it racked up 5000+ in sub 100 purchases
in 8 hours....he had reported it the second he found so was not liable.
And for places like CBperformance (UPS etc ONLY) it does help having an understanding sister living in the U.S.
Just multiply by 1.25 and you'll be close. Figure $400 AUD + shipping if applicable.

Well,
I have ordered from aircooled.net.. with mastercard
I rang the bank and they said they charge 3% which is OK..
I have dealt with CB Performance a few times...
the freight is usually MORE expensive than the parts...
it makes their parts very expensive...
You may have told Me before Mike that you have Paypal...
very poor memory...
and the freight was more a worry than the credit card
although I use Paypal when i can...
I know I don't have any problems with it...

Lee I was going to buy some parts from a supplier in the states,then they needed more details off my credit card,a photocopy of both sides of my
drivers licence also,I rang the credit card company who said no and so i paid by international money order and then the parts were despatched a fair
time later to the postcode 2340 instead of 2430. The transport co reported it as unable to be delivered,no longer at this address.A long and involved
process to follow the order up,but I finally received the bits. i hope you fare better,as I can't be bothered with the crap so i deal locally. cheers

I have a friend with Amex card, and he will do it for me and I reimburse him in cash. The exchange rate conversion was less with Amex. I will only fax
card details to businesses overseas, not e-mail.
