Piston Rings and Advice Needed

Hi all, I'm taking apart my 1600 engine trying to work out the damage caused by a severe oil leak (I've fixed the source of the leak). The engine heated up pretty bad, but didnt sieze.

I've taken the heads off and found a fair bit of oil in each of the combustion chambers on one side (a few teaspoons roughly). Is some oil normal? Would this point towards worn piston rings?

I've inspected the rings but cant tell what a worn ring would look like. To a not very mechanically minded person they look ok.

There were fairly big flakes of non-magnetic metal in the oil strainer also - does anyone have an idea of where these might have come from, and an estimate of work needed to fix?

Thanks.
