Tappets

What are the recommendations on setting the tappets on a 1.25 ratio rockets with chromoly pushrods????? For a reliable street driven car?????

What distances/feeler gauge size??

Any special tips to consider?

(Have been told numerous sizes including 0mm - so confused!!!)

Zero is what I use, for chromoly pushrods,
because the engine case and heads expands more than the chromoly.

I get mine so I can just rotate the pushrod,
but if you want, you can set them using a one or two thou feeler guage...COLD!!.

My first VW mechanic, who was factory trained, told me that if the tappets on a VW aircooled engine are set to 6 thou inlet and 8 thou exhaust, then the engine would sound a bit tappety, but you will never burn out an exhaust valve.

I assume that this would not change with 1.25 ratio rockers, so it may be a good idea to set the exhaust 2 thou bigger than the inlet, for the same reason.

Cool thanks ppl. I thought that zero was the answer due to the theory behind the expansion of the engine 'around' the pushrods thus leaving the warmed up engine tapping away nicely!!! :-)
